Have you tried having fewer job cancellations?

Barring that, there are instructions for disabling specific sounds in the mod description.

Actually I may have solved that, I was able to load an older save by going to another computer that still had a copy of the older mod and copying the older audible_alerts(1004) into my data/installed_mods folder.
it seems like saves made with (1004) are just not compatible with the newer (1007) version?

Has anyone figured out how to solve the loading older saves issue @yeah was having on Sep 18th in this thread? I'm having the same issue and wondering if there's a known fix at all.

I did remove the brackets [SOUND:JOB_CANCEL] to SOUND:JOB_CANCEL and now i get a fatal error for job_cancel. idk how to mute it

@BeefMaestro Sorry about that, the current settings work fine in the early game, but may become untenable later. I would add an ingame menu to disable certain sounds if I could, but Dwarf Fortress doesn't currently give modmakers a way to do that (without something like DFHack running).

What you can do is edit the mod files to disable the offending sound. That process is described in the mod's description, under the heading "How do I turn off a particular sound?".

This works so well for so many moments. But if there's a job cancel repeat it gets real annoying real fast. :meatytears:

@Magicrafter13 not officially, no. If I recall correctly, it's possible to do it by mucking around in the game files, but that's not something I'd be much help with troubleshooting if it goes wrong.

I really wish the mod system for this game worked differently, because there really isn't anything in this mod that actually should be tied to the saved game.

Placed the sounds_additional into vanilla music/objects but I now get the error "Missing Sound Definition: MINOR_POSITIVE_ALERT" upon loading older saves. :/

@Trainzack Getting the error "Missing Sound Definition: DEMON_ATTACK_ADD" when loading any of my old saves that had this mod after reinstalling DF. Tried following uninstall instructions, deleting/unbracketing DEMON_ATTACK_ADD from soundadditional, installing older versions of this mod but can't load saves without updating and crashing. Nothing has worked so far but new generated worlds can load fine. Would appreciate any help thx.

I love this mod, but the job cancellation noise becomes too much when I sequester my civilians indoors.

Hi, I randomly came across a minor thing in the error log:

JOB_CANCEL:Unrecognized Sound Token: CANNOT_SPEAK.

Adding ANNOUNCEMENT to the line under 'Job cancel' in the sound_additional object seems to have fixed it.

@Trainzack yeah, the event is firing constantly, since it was missing room for Bookeeper, so the alert was always on. I have followed the steps you provided and it worked :) thanks ;)

@Mr.Infro It's quite possible that your dwarves are just cancelling a lot of jobs very, very quickly. The description of this mod has instructions to turn the sound off, if you'd like.

@Trainzack I have encountered wierd thing with a AlertCancel sound. I have multiple alerts unfortunately (red crossed circle listing everything dwarves cant do) and this apparently triggers the sound in a loop. And its driving me crazy. Is it something thats intentional or did my game crapped out? Thank you

I do recall a similar issue that is resolved by having the earlier version installed, so feel free to try that.

@Trainzack: Yes, it prompt me to update audible alerts to 1.7 from 1.4 (which is not found).
I'm using the DF version 51.01 beta 13 version.
By any chance do you still have the version 1.4 version? I'm thinking if I can install it that might fix the issue.

@Arana Discoteca, I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with this. Which version of Dwarf Fortress are you running? Does the game prompt you to use a newer version of the mod when you load the save?

Hi Trainzack, after reinstalling Dwarf Fortress, I'm getting the same error mentioned before: "Missing Sound Definition: DEMON_ATTACK_ADD" trying to load a save.
Any idea how to fix it? I tried to edit the mod files and remove the mention of it, but seems to do nothing.
The save is from a very long game, I would prefer not to lose it.

That might've been my mistake

Either way, it might be worth putting it into the instructions that people are capable of changing the alerts via ingame settings without the need to touch the text files at all.

@Mr Nimbus, I'm glad to hear you found a workaround that works.

If you're going to edit text files, do make sure you're editing the version of the mod in the data\installed_mods folder, not the version in the mods folder.

update: there are ingame settings to disable alerts entirely - if you disable the alert for the job alert you don't want to hear, you can bypass the requirements to edit the text files.

to be clear, removing square brackets from every single alert with the word "job" in it, per your instructions, does not disable the audio alert for job cancellations.

@Nils de Lumiere If you delete the installed mod, any save files using this mod will not load.

It's a limitation of the modding system that all mods are on a per-save file basis, even for things like this that would work perfectly fine if you turned it on or off.

Can't locate 'data/installed_mods/audible_alerts (X)/object' - Only seems to be additional sounds, but not 'audible alerts' in order to remove the cancel job sound that spams consistently.

@LumberingTroll I'm sorry you're encountering trouble there. I was hoping that, with the advent of custom sounds, I could make a cancel alert subtle enough that it wouldn't be a nuisance even in the worst cases of cancellation spam. However, I did not have the time to thoroughly test this, and of course different playstyles have different amounts of cancellation, and different people have different tolerance levels.

You can disable any particular alert by following the instructions in the body of this workshop post. Please let me whether you're able to successfully disable the alert if you decide to, and if so let me know which alerts you've decided to turn off. With enough information, I can make future versions have defaults that work better for a wider number of people.

I have the same issue, but a different sound. MINOR_POSITIVE_ALERT is it for me.

I have deleted all mod folders and restarted the game. :|

Hmm I tried that but now I am getting a different error, "Missing Sound Definition: DEMON_ATTACK_ADD", at the same place.

Also I realized that the mod wasn't even installed properly on that save, because I just started a new fort and am getting the actual new sound effects in this one which weren't present in the other. I do remember including the mod in my active mod list when I first created that world, but for some reason it never really got working? I don't know I'm confused.

@Heart Ah, that explains it. To reinstall it, just delete every audible alerts folder under Dwarf Fortress/data/installed_mods/. When you load up the game again, it will reinstall it.

I'm not getting any prompts at all. It loads seemingly normally and then when it gets to the "sorting sounds" stage, the crash occurs. I'm not sure what version of the mod is on that save but I would guess that it's the latest.

The error started happening earlier when I tried reinstalling the mod after uninstalling it. I didn't know how exactly to reinstall the mod after having followed the uninstall instructions - deleting a bunch of folders and lines of text from sound_additional.txt. I assumed I needed to paste those lines back in, somehow, but didn't have access to them anymore. I was able to generate a "fresh" version of the file by creating a new world, but then when I tried to load my other save the error started to happen. And I've been unable to get it working since. Tried uninstalling the mod again, but didn't work. Don't have any clue why the error is happening.

@Heart: When you load your save, are you getting a prompt to upgrade the version of this mod? If so, this is an issue that I believe was fixed in 50.10, though I haven't tested. You can fix this by downloading the version of the mod that is on your save (or tricking the game into thinking you have that version installed), then upgrading to the current version of this mod.

I was trying to reinstall this mod after uninstalling it but now I can't load my save, getting a Fatal Error "Missing Sound Definition: MINOR_POSITIVE_ALERT" during load. Is there something I can do to fix this?
