That's happened because this is 32bit engine and it will crash when game is trying to use more than 3gb of RAM. You can clean up your addons, this should help a bit

Basically you open the .mdl file with Notepad++ in HEX mode and rename the model manually, then save the file and rename the model files themselves (dx90; vvd; phy; etc) and that's it.

However not all weapons are interchangeable/swapable like that, SG552 for example requires a proper recompile due to different animation ($Sequence) order.

Look up "HEX Editing" guides, all 3 ARs in L4D2 are swapable with hex editing.
