I really like the Spy's variant. But it seems to be a bit out of style for most cosmetics of Medic, for example. Could be hard to combine in decent-looking sets

These balaclavas reference modern warfare (I assume it's a COD reference, I don't play those games) and the paint jobs on them are not something you would see in 1960's New Mexico. The balaclava is well-modeled, and just by itself would look acceptable. The edgy wraith/skull paint does not fit. (2/2)
TF2 isn't a realistic game by any stretch of the imagination, but it does have a very established and cohesive look to it with a general time frame being the 60s-70s.
If you're pulling items from different games into TF2, they have to be altered to adhere to the game's art direction. (1/2)
19:Medic:Mecha-Medes(It is a robot version of the medic's pet dove. Also, If this was in the 1960s, Medic's equipment (other than his bonesaw. Just his standard one.) Would not exist.)
20:Spy:Nanobalaclava(Same reason as deus specs, Pretty much. "Deus Ex: Human Revolution was released on August 26, 2011, therefore nobody could have created these as a reference/piece of merchandise.")
12:Scout:Alien cranium (Xenomorphs are fictional, This goes for the rest of the alien set.)
13:Soldier:Poopy doe/Freedom feathers/War dog (It is impossible to transform your head into an animal's head. That wouldn't even be possible today. Maybe 37,987 years later.)
14:Pyro:Apparition's Aspect (As quoted from the TF2 Wiki: It causes the Pyro's head to appear as a translucent glowing ghost head. It is impossible to transform your head into a ghost head.
15:Demoman:Alcoholic Automaton (This turns demoman's head into a robot head. Like the 3 others before it, You cannot turn part of your head into a robot. Maybe 37,987 years later.)
16:Heavy:Purity Fist (This transforms heavy's arm into a cybernetic arm. This would have been impossible to achieve in the 1960s. Even today. Maybe 37,987 years later.)
17:Engineer:Pip-Boy (The pip boy is entirely fictional and the first fallout game released on october 10th, 1997.
6:Companion Cube Pin (Portal was released October 10, 2007. therefore this pin would not be made)
7:MONOCULUS! (It is literally a giant eye-demon-thing shrunken down and turned into a hat. This could not have existed in the 1960s, Or ever.)
8:Deus Specs (Deus Ex: Human Revolution was released on August 26, 2011, therefore nobody could have created these as a reference/piece of merchandise.)
9:RoBro 3000 (It is a robot that floats behind your shoulder, This could not have existed in 1960.)
10:TF2VRH (Virtual reality headsets of this type were first made roughly around 1991, Making this incapable of existing in 1960/70.
11:Voodoo-cursed souls (Zombie-creation is impossible. It won't work in the 1960s. It won't work in 2023. Maybe 37,987 years later.)
also: here's a list of roughly 20 hats i could find that could not exist in the 1960s/1970s/could not exist at all but is in the game regardless.
and yes, i'm this petty.
1:Max's severed head (Fictional characters could not get their head severed in the real world
2:Earbuds (This type of earbud, Would be invented around 2004. Making it impossible to exist in 1960.)
3:Alien swarm parasite (It is an alien swarm parasite. Alien swarm parasites do not exist as they are fictional enemies in the video game Alien Swarm)
4:Horseless Headless Horsemann's Head (Same as below. The headless horseman could also not have existed )
-Edgy hat
