If too inconvenient, it's nothing too dramatic, as removing the spaces between the pawns via mod settings serves as a fair workaround.

Probably you're playing on a big map. Try playing on 50%
If the caravan is too close to the left or right of the map, the flickering will occur. The flickering (and distance needed from the furthest edge of either East/West of the map) is more evident the larger the planet size when generating the game. In dev (5%) and 30% the issue was less noticeable, the edge issue not happening at all in the dev map. But at 50%, and especially 100% map sizes, the issue becomes evident much sooner the closer you travel to either edge of the map. It is as if the colonists cross a layer, there is an effect you can notice where they transition over something and after that the flickering begins. As for the inverted icons, this happens when you get close to the top of the map (North), after which it will stay "flipped" until you move down ~25% away, again the distance varies based on the map size, and may not occur on maps <30% in size.
