also that's a good way to think about it haha. i always just had them as concepts 'cause i never had a way to make them anything more than that. i also just like writing my ideas down lol.
glad to hear though, i'll definitely try to reach out if i ever do end up making him. ^^
also i think i might not have an issue with horn point since the attack in the sprite sheet is exactly how i imagined chopper's side special would go. the thought of having to add them for every extra chopper animation makes die on the inside a little though haha.
Also yeah, that's just the nature of using only pre-existing sprites for this game unfortunately haha. I think for Chopper in particular though, I'm just glad the sheet already has animations that work almost perfectly with 3 of the specials I had in mind. I'm fine with attempting animations for the non-specials/strongs since they'd all use his normal form so implementing most of the character's moveset shouldn't be too bad. (Although spriting/animating the antlers scares me @_@).
Talking about this more really does make me want to try doing Chopper after Luffy now though... Would definitely be a shorter project since I wouldn't have to modify the original sprites as much, and animation (aside from the antlers) shouldn't be too bad for Chopper's normal attacks.
Also you reminded me. If I do end up making a Chopper with the Wonderswan sprites as a base, that means I'd need to do custom animations for Chopper's other points and not just his normal form too. ._.
As for the rumble balls though, I think that's one of the instances where you have to drop canon in favor of gameplay. A rumble ball mechanic would be interesting though-
Also really cool to hear you did the Crusade/SSF2 mods for him! I think I might've come across them while I was looking up vids for reference.
Also yeah I know the Wonderswan sprites are very nice, (minus the eyes in most cases, but you did edit those so that part is taken care of) like them a lot too. Though in terms of moveset he is a bit tricky to pull off in a Smash/Rivals setting from what I have experienced. (Made him playable on 4 occasions. Twice in Crusade and SSF2 due to Pre and Post-Timeskip variants.) Since it is very easy to make him too generic by the nature of how it is or some creative liberties have to be taken with how the Rumble Ball forms work in Pre-Timeskip's case.
shame this is what they're associated with now.
can we get much higher?
oh oh oh, oh oh oh
