why i get an random url with trash talker

It does draw the attention of nearby zeds when you talk. But mostly it's intended to be funny. Not meant for super competitive servers, of course.

what does the trash talker traits do? seems like a free points for me. plus it is good for dialogue plus. when u kill zombies. makes ur char alive.

I am unsure of the limits of the file-reading mechanism in this mod, but you can attempt to write whatever you want in the .ini and see what happens!

Another way to make alternate versions of this mod would be to simply upload TrashTalk.ini variations and tell your users to put them in %UserProfile%/Zomboid/Lua/. If this mod sees them there, it will load them.

Just FYI you could easily require this mod as a basis for variations. Simply overwrite the function that determines people's default lines; if your mod requires this one, nothing else would need to change.

Just to be clear to anyone trying to make a version where different players pull from their own pool of quotes: do realize that this is already possibly via the ini. By following the mod's instructions, every player can customize their own pool of trash talking lines. Check Zomboid/Lua folder for the file you need to edit.

The whole point of that file is to allow every individual trash talker on a server to have their own pool of trash talk.

If you are unfamiliar with modding traits into Zomboid or find it extremely difficult, editing that ini and teaching others to do so will be a much easier way to have everyone use their own lines.

Sorry I somehow never noticed this comment, Batman... you would just have to add multiple traits the same way the first trait was added. Each trait would need its own trait id. Then players could pick one. If you want those traits to be mutually exclusive, I am not sure how it's done but I believe one of the More Traits mods does it with some sort of "Prepared" trait; I would read what they do and learn from that.

I mod for fun and anyone is welcome to reuse my code (though it would be polite to change variable names enough to avoid conflicts with the original mods, just in case something you make ends up on a server with something I made). Should work if you just copy the Folder to local Zomboid Mod Folder, and change the Mods name+whatever name you choose for the Trait.
Don´t really have time to explain in detail, but that´s the gist of it.

Hey man I'm really digging this mod, especially with adding dialogue in it myself. I was wondering if there is some way I could duplicate it so that I could have multiple trash talking traits with different names you could select which would each have different dialogue. I think this would be great for MP since you could have players saying things from different pools of dialogue.

Hi, I like your mod and I wanted to translate all the trash talking in French but I have no idea how to do it.

I have released server host options for controlling the range and volubility of trash talk. This required me to rework the clientside settings for range and volubility so that the options and their descriptions "make sense" in the context of minimums and maximums that admins can change. You will therefore likely need to update your choices for range and volubility in Mod Options. Sorry for the inconvenience, but hopefully the value this adds to the mod is worthwhile. You can set your range to 1000 squares and pull zombies from all over the place. It's pretty cool... haha.

I have officially made Mod Options a requirement as I warned in the last update. Please grab it today if you have not already begun using it!

@Gremlin Just added keyboard shortcuts, automatic whisper mode while sneaking, context menu triggers, and 3 levels of noise: mutter, talk, battlecry. New features must be enabled using the Mods menu (which is accessible after installing Mod Options, if you haven't done so).

@[RaW]Gremlin PS, regarding this: Involuntary trash talk during a fight should be whispered if the player is in sneaking state. I respect this perspective, and I will look into how it could be done, but I believe the player will not be in a sneaking state when attacking (from the game's point of view, because shoving or aiming takes you into the aiming state, which is different than the sneaking state). I would therefore need some complex mechanism for determining whether a player had recently been sneaking WITHOUT making any obnoxious noise between the time they stopped sneaking and the time they killed a zombie. Solving that is non-trivial and I do have other priorities in modding right now, so I am unlikely to solve that as quickly as the extra ways to trigger Trash Talk. Sorry! Hopefully you can see why that could get complicated.

@Gremlin Hold presses involving CTRL are unfortunately not as easy to mod as you might hope, and the game is already sort of bloated with hotkeys as is, but I might be able to add a Sandbox Option that adds a context menu that would allow Trash Talk to be manually triggered instead of automatic.

We need a mod that makes it so different shortcuts do three things; whisper, trash talk and yell, at 3 different volumes.

ctrl + q = whisper (works seamlessly with hold to crouch)
q = trash talk
shift + q = yell

The trait then could make trash talk involuntary when fighting and turn yells and whispers into different volume trash talk. But involuntary trash talk during a fight should be whispered if the player is in sneaking state.

@HesTheMedic I have added a Mod Option that can be set in-game to enable you to trash talk despite not having the trait. You should now be able to use this mod with existing characters.

I will consider adding a sandbox option for letting people who are not trash talkers optionally activate trash talk. @HesTheMedic

Answer: It's actually NOT rated low... 93% upvotes... But Steam does not report the stars as a direct representation of upvotes until you have hundreds of upvotes, which really harms the apparent reputation of unknown modders like me. Please tell Steam that we do not need to see misleading stars and would prefer no rating to a misleading rating until we have enough votes such that stars are a direct visual representation of positive feedback.
