Heya, noticed on characters that lack compatibility for down special that they just disappear, is there meant to be a placeholder sprite for in the case of that? Just curious.

The character is great, but the down special seems kind of underwhelming. It would be interesting to see it turned into a counter that also temporarily affects the enemies skills (Kind of like the frog thing with Aerith,) and it would probably a bit more balanced. Amazing work though!

love the sprite work and style on this character, its so good

questions - down special is supposed to be a counter, but it activates without being hit, and doesnt seem to do anything differently if it is hit, whats supposed to happen?
also i looked at the transformation files for the compatibility, and while base cast has small sprites, the touhou chars are scaled up - which size should i use for my character?

Do love the new tweaks to the kit the up-special seems to jump higher giving you another good recovery option, the teleport seems to hit them interrupting them. along with the d-special seeming overall better now giving reason to use it. became accustomed to the d-strong it seems to exist to punish rolling though i still find its range a bit too low you need to be like right on them.

Now if only the damned little Tanuki would stop slapping them out of stuns XD (joking)

As for side special, honestly I just don't like it. They really just feel like their only purpose is to be marked and teleported to. It's like if a Luma was just walking around the stage and occasionally jabbed once when near an opponent. I saw a suggestion to just making them gordos and I'd say that's far more interesting than how they are now (though frankly I'd much rather an entirely new concept rather than reworking this attack). I haven't really got much issue with how neutral special works besides making that explosion a bit less underwhelming (10% and fixed knockback just feels so pathetic really I know it's probably got utility but god it really doesn't feel satisfying at all).

I know my list of critiques was long but I only really have issues with the specials. Pretty much all her normals feel great (save for down strong it really feels useless tbh) and I love the hover in her jump. I just think her specials need some kind of overhaul.

Neat concept for a character (one of my favorite 2hus too) and her animations are great, but I'm not really sure if I'm into that specials kit. They all feel kind of underpowered and not all that intuitive (especially her down special). I can see the utility in how her up special synergizes with her marking ability, but in practice it just didn't feel great to use at all. Sometimes it'd hit my opponent and cause hitstun, but often times it just wouldn't (even when they're standing perfectly still). Hell, one time I'm pretty sure up special's teleport hit my opponent and sent them barreling towards their death at a high percent and I've yet to be able to replicate that so idk if that's even intended. D-special just doesn't seem useful either. I feel like I get way more out of just parrying normally. I honestly don't really think a counter will work for this character, I'd rather it's just scrapped and replaced with something much more interesting.

Has anyone else been having problems using her online? I know everyone in the lobby I'm in has the same version of her as everyone else, but no dice. I know certain other characters on workshop have this same issue.

love the character the air game is so nice floating goes well with it. the recovery can feel bad if you don't land the leaf and it's kind of predictable if you do so you can get punished if you use it.
for myself though i think i'll be buffing d-strong since there seems to be 0 reason to use it over u-strong the range just feels so bad and payoff doesn't seems worth it. also find 0 reason to use d-special over the games built in counter mechanic i could just be bad though.

still love the character though it's one of my favorite workshops the kit is nice for sure.

@mellow I mentioned the predictable recovery binary as well in my past comments. Idk what Harbige's vision is for the tanuki, but I think they'd be overall more useful if they just functioned as King Dedede Gordos or if he wants to not waste the AI make it so they don't die as easily or are more of a threat (or a combination of any of these). The n-special leaf could do hit stun and possibly combo into it's explosion at higher percents.

Oh and to follow up with what I said earlier, it'd also be cool if when you ko your Tanukis they have a hitbox, so you can hit them into the opponent

I came up with two ideas to give her kit more versatility:
One is making it so you have to hold up special for a bit to teleport to a marked opponent, so you can choose to either use the mark or recover normally, to give her recovery more ambiguity, since if the opponent is marked and you need to recover, it can be very predictable
Another is making the Tanuki's attacks very slightly bigger, and making it so when Mamizou Jabs, the Tanukis attack at the same time, to give her more control over them.

However, these ideas may conflict with your vision of the character so use them if you want or not

@mellow IK, I want Mommy Mamizou to live up to her potential too, it would just be a few tweaks to what she already has to make her get to that point. As of now, i'm rarely using half her moveset since it's largely impractical to even bother.

I love her dearly and I will protect her 'til I die, but her specials seem kinda underpowered

Thanks,the suggestions that were addressed make Mamizou feel better overall even though there are still a few more things left to be desired; That near 2 second delay between being able to use f-special consecutively even if you are already actionable is a big irksome one still.

Her marked d-special is less useful than the regular version since the regular one pops the opponent up with extended stun for conversions at any percent. When marked the opponent just instantly gets to tech roll. You don't seem to want to change the tanuki ai outside of the recent change to when Mamizou gets hit, but i'd just suggest to increase the stun they do when used as a projectile (this seems to be a common trend, opponents being able to act near faster than Mamizou after getting hit with her attacks). Could you also remove the cooldown between throwing both Tanuki, that doesn't seem necessary at all when you consider how very not OP or even approaching decent they are.

Now for u-special offensively, an easy fix would be to just increase the explosion size and stun so it's works consistently and you don't feel awful when you hit your opponent with a big move, teleport to them while they are in stun, and they still manage to throw an attack out when you pop next to them while mashing any of your attacks for a follow up.

Mamizou's u-special still isn't very useful since it leaves her very vulnerable offensively and as a recovery even after the patch. As a recovery she should at least be able to cancel the teleport with parry mid start up so it's not so predictable as to where an when to easily punish her (like other similar mechanic characters including orcane); I think it should also send her a bit higher than it does now when you don't teleport. I don't think there should be such a heavy reliance on the teleport to recover from far away (I know you are supposed to use the float to help out as well) or too low below stage considering how binary and easy it is to stuff it, you either kill the tanuki that's marked or charge your u-strong and just wait for her to pop up next to you with ample endlag.

Great character overall but her specials are lacking in effectiveness and easy to disregard; most of her normals are good especially when you combine the float effectively. There is still too much endlag on n-air imo, her d-strong hits hard, but you'd almost always opt to use u-strong instead since it covers both sides with more range and above you while leaving you less open to being punished. The only upside to d-strong is that it's easy to sweet spot. Most of her specials are lacking whether it be utility or effectiveness. n-special detonation should stun the opponents longer and pop them up for conversions or make it have knocback growth so it kills eventually; because right now it has fixed Knockback and they recover super fast from the hitstun (Mamizou would still be in endlag from the detonation before she could follow up with an attack anyway), letting just roll when they touch the ground.

Definitely up there in quality releases and tops among the touhou ones, though that's nothing new from you when it comes to the former. I've another request, less endlag on n-air, it seems like a move you should be able to use in as quick succession as her b-air, since it doesn't have high KB sweet spot on it like her b-air does.

Another suggestion: Could you make it so her Dedede Tanukis don't die when they're hit by her? As of now they don't appear very useful aside from being a initial projectile (you could make them being hit by Mamizou refresh their flung hit box so you can use them like Jacko's pawns from guilty gear). The Mark on them so far as I can tell just makes them follow you, but I think it should also make them more aggressive in attacking increased hit rate or just faster). Least concerned suggestion: Her counter isn't overpowered or anything, which is good, but could it do something about projectiles?

Her up-special marked teleport attack both leaves her very vulnerable and in too much recovery for her to competently and consistently follow up with an attack even when the opponent is in hittstun; They can act before her, I'd say look at other characters who have a similar gimmick like Saji, Keqing, and gengar, their teleport to marked opponents attack work consistently (mainly Saji's since that is the most similar version) An easy fix is to just increase the stun the opponent goes has and pop them up a bit like Saji's since they both can act into whatever attack on teleported.
