The problem with xenons isn't they are hard to fight against. Like Mirek said most L ships has better range, and M ships can easily missile engines. But there's no good way to fight them OOS apart from building ridiculous defense platforms. With this nerf I can finally go and do story missions or harass transport ships while my fleet deal with xenons for 100th time
I do think your post can give others coming here with difficulties some good tips and tricks. thank you for that :)
Graviton turret has Range of some 5km. Argon Plasma turret has 8km, Behemot main gun 10km. You can turn off flight assist and freefloat trough space to different direction than your ship is aiming. So. You can easily with some patience destroy a fleet of Xenon capital ships with one Behemot, by ciircling the xenon ships and shooting from beiond theyr range. Or if you have unlocked terran SIN destroyer then you dont even need to be patient . Just ceep track of the other Capitals in the fleet so they dont flank you. If you have unlocked teleportation research, you can even brutalize xenons on svereal fronts at once.
For gate guarding, i found that lining 6 AI controled behemoths 8km from gate in a tight line facing the gate, and reinforcing their possition with about hundred Mk2 laser towers can do just fine with out player supervision.
