I think I see the issue.
As for your first reply: You absolutely want to beat Neon Tyrant before you fight Sightseer. NT is admittedly quite old and in need of a rework, though the fight is not too bad if you arm yourself with a musket and grab food items. Sightseer requires a little more arena prep and general gear overall, but actually has lower damage values than Neon Tyrant. I left a disclaimer about playing on master mode as all the bosses have set stats regardless of difficulty, and Mastermode so happens to give you the highest player defense scaling *and* an extra accessory slot. If you were trying to play on Expert, then you might've been gimping yourself.
As for your details: I can sorta see what you mean about damage, though there is speed to dodge the attacks. Even early game, you can get things like hermes boots, speed potions, sunflowers, ect. What boss are you on, and what is your gear? Glory mod expects you to gear up more than vanilla, so it could simply be an issue of being under-geared for this point in the game. I also don't really see the point of dealing too little damage, given the bosses don't have crazy HP. At most, they have a high defense (mainly Neon Tyrant), but that isn't a big deal if you have heavy hitting weaponry or are using debuffs.
