That might matter if the items LOOKED like they weren't actually spy's face. But they don't - they look like any of the countless "Maskless Spy" mods floating around the web.

In contrast, something like the Handsome Jack mask works precisely because it is obvious that it's a -mask-, even if as a mask it is intended to look like a person's real face.

Item description alone is a very small part of an item. A player shouldn't have to read the item description to have an accurate concept of what your item is. A good item description elaborates upon core concepts that are already delivered by the appearance of the item itself, but the extra details it delivers should only ever be minor details, not object fundamentals.

I really hate how people feel the need to destroy anything purposefully made to be even remotely mysterious.

The entire POINT of things like Pyro's and Spy's masks is the mystery they invoke. It doesn't MATTER what's underneath them, because it's more fun to let people speculate and imagine than it ever could be to tell people.

It's like with Tali, from Mass Effect - she was never meant to have her face be seen, and when the creators caved in to fan pressure and gave her an actual face, countless people were disappointed - PRECISELY BECAUSE an official face can never possibly match up to the different possibilities present in the imaginations of millions of people.
