Agreed, even in vanilla, crawling trough vents with a headcrab dead in front of you somehow covers the entire flashlight lol
I get that "the HEV lamp is in the chest" and yada yada but dear lord make a compromise because it looked god awful and nowhere near realistic anyway.
There's way in the skill.cfg to control most aspects of the flashlight, but it's a huge undertaking to get it to do what you want.
Used to be 'static' flashlight mods on the workshop, and more, but most seem to have disappeared.
Note that while skill.cfg by default has a lot of commands for the flashlight, there are actually even more that aren't listed there, and need to be found navigating the console. Once you have what you want, save it to skill.cfg, and enjoy.

I found adding these to your autoexec makes a huge improvement. NearZ so shadows are cast from objects further than 5 feet from your face, and PosY to make the flashlight usable while crawling through vents (Affects the stock one too)
