The "." in .50 cal represents the diameter of the bullet. .50 meaning half an inch. In the name of the mod it's on the wrong side of the 50 and can be interpreted as the gun having a 50 inch diameter projectile which would be gigantic and honestly cool looking.

the gun looks and works fine but when i equip it i get a big "error" texture above my head, is there a texture in the mod thats not standard gmod?

For everyone else: Yes, this is real. It is called 50 Beowulf. (Metric name is 12.7x42mm)
It uses the same projectile as .50 AE from the Desert Eagle.
