im just here to see what other people see of last puzzle and tbh whole thing about light bridge and gels thing was part of portal 2 coop in my memory at least... idk if there gels sticked on original bridge either... in any case i finished last puzzle just by jumping from first gel spot and clicking button mid air and then doing same with box without doing any gel light bridges stuff.

Very nice.

The overall idea is alright, however Props aren't aligned correctly, the animations are janky, the sound feels off, the first puzzle can be skipped and from what i can tell, the second puzzle is impossible. And if it is possible, then it's too difficult.
The Escapist 2024
It makes perfect sense that light travels faster than paint but the original bridge does not hold paint which makes you eliminate the idea. It is kind of misleading.

I liked your maps in general but disliked that I fell to death multiple times because I was not watching the ground.
The Escapist 2024
First of all, there was a section towards the middle where you can shoot a portal through broken glass which leads to a dead end but looks like a part of the puzzle. I guess it was an unfinished part. Being able to get there and seeing a lot of white portal surfaces made me think it was a part of the puzzle. I had to look at that youtube video to realize I wasted time there (3:34)

evil last puzzle
That's a bit of an evil last puzzle. Took a while but was very clever. Another great level.
Alcyr 2023
I think the most frustrating thing about the ending for me was that the gel doesn't stick to the original light bridge, so there's definitely a bug somewhere in the level. And I'd say the intended interaction between light bridges and gels is an easy thing to not know/remember.

If you do want to include this trick in a map, having a primer that's a more straightforward "put gel on a light bridge" puzzle would be a good idea, to at least put the idea in the player's mind.

SUPER! Great fun!
exceptional. I LOVE this mechanic because it really isn't obvious, but when you really break it down and rule out everything, you'll see how narrow your options are. and then: BOOM split-second PHYSICS, gravity and inertia, so satisfying. thanks!
I love this one. I consider that mechanic as a creative and logical move, just because there is no other solution. It is possible to put a little gel on the floor, but this was just not enough, so the solution became obvious.
Fun puzzle and superb design!
Favorite again!

"Bug" seems to be a generic wording for unusual mechanics or anything out of the ordinary. But thanks for playing.
Do people really consider moving a portal a bug?
Of course if you have gel flowing from a portal and then get a bridge out of that same portal, the gel will end up on there.

That just seems like common sense.
There's a good chance I'll be avoiding this mechanic in the future. Thanks for playing.
This one relies on an almost hidden mechanic. I was stumped due to unexplained rules, not a clever problem. Even knowing bridges hold gel, I couldn't get it. Suddenly changing the portal to get gel on the bridge feels like a physical solution, not puzzle solving. The fact the source doesn't hold gel is insult to injury. Inexperienced players wouldn't know. Your levels are great. Valve's design here is bad and we should avoid this mechanic unless it can be demonstrated in level design.

Flinging, jumping, pistons...many of the Portal things that suck at and was so happy were of lesser importance in Portal 2. Still...how could I not enjoy a romp through such a beautifully destroyed Aperture?....
Stan The Man 2022 年 9 月 21 日 上午 10:04
Beautiful environment, nice jumping, however also a bit straightforward. Good for relaxing after a day hard work. Tip: if something doesn't work directly, try a few times, the outcome is not always the same. And yes, the trick in the end..... the Portal-veterans have seen this one obviously before, but if you haven't, don't stop, eventually you will find it.

Really like your puzzles! Great work!

This one has me stumped.
Andy T 2022
Wait, that's considered a bug? Since LB is light, speed of light so the bridge would've been there before gel splashed on it and this seems legit.
If you have a stain on a light bridge, there are new skies awaiting you :)
Ron Moses 2022
I have to agree with a few of the folks here. I love your work, including this chamber, but banging my head against this thing for an hour only to have to come here and learn that there's a bug mechanic called "portal switching" that I've never heard of (and which I absolutely still don't understand)... that was a bit disappointing. Everything up to that point, pure joy! I'm still looking forward to playing part 6!
it should stick to the original light bridge but maybe it's too small of a blob instead of a big paint bomb.
braids | the bomb biatch
Really cool chamber but the very end was weird. That the blue goo doesn't stick on the original bridge but does on the portal bridge didn't feel great

I accidentally figured out the solution to the last puzzle very quickly and I immediately assumed it wasn't the intended solution, then spent like 5 minutes trying to find the "real" one :sothappy:
Skyferret  [作者] 2022 年 6 月 18 日 下午 7:13
@MaxxBrass.........From the time stamp of this video, this should be the part about portal switching that was discussed by others

Solving this one took a lot of effort.
I don't know what a portal switch is, and I don't think I'll ever figure it out naturally. Really disappointing ending :/
I have read the comments below but I still do not understand the solution to the light bridge puzzle. Otherwise good map thank you.
Andy T 2022
Well it'll be fine if they got to see the gel sticking in action before they need to apply that in a puzzle.
I'm thinking best perhaps leave this mechanic out of future maps. Keep things at a medium level so everyone can enjoy playing.
So for the light bridge test chamber, I definitely think the fact no gel gets caught on the "source" end of the bridge is very odd. It makes the level for casual players VERY challenging because they have to figure out portal switching with the bridge and the gel, PLUS the gel can go on the bridge. If you made the map so that when you put the gel on the source end it would cover it with the gel, it would've players such as myself learn the new mechanic naturally.
RKFioh.ttv 2022
Would be a lot better if you didn't have to use a "portal switch" for the end (whatever tf THAT is). As a casual player, I didn't know to use a bug-mechanic as an INTENDED method. It isn't fun for a casual player.
And for the author to say, "As for the gel and recast to light bridge, it's not a higher skilled move because that is what is meant to be done. I think what's been happening is people think it's an alternate solution that only more skilled player would use." It IS a higher skill move that the layman player doesn't know. Just because something is simple for the creator doesn't mean it's easy for others.

Soooo great! Actinium is an awesome series.
Challenging all the way through, especially the last step. I couldn't make a jump directly to the cube platform so I had to find another way. Great puzzle. Thanks.
just figured it out! thx Skyferret!
Doing a portal switch so the light bridge catches that last glob of gel coming out of the portal should catch the gel. And you should have a small glob on the light bridge. So I'm not sure why it wont stick.
having some trouble in the section with the light bridge and the blue gel. i know that in the base game you can put gel on light bridges but for some reason i cant here. i"ve also seen a few in the comments hinting to this solution but again the gel just wont stick to the bridge. can anyone help me out?
Sharcc 2022
So far this series has been good, but the last part of it is brutally confusing. Having a short, simple tutorial to explain the mechanic used beforehand would have made this much easier, simply because I had no idea that was even something you could do in the game at all.
Magnificent, as usual. Please make more like this! Thank you for creating it.
I'm a bit uncertain why someone wouldn't look down into the portal they're falling into during a fling maneuver of any kind, especially if they place the wrong portal while in the air and have to place a new portal underneath themselves to save the fling. I've always looked down instinctually to be sure I fall into the portal correctly, since portal funneling isn't always perfect.

Check out chamber 18 from Portal 1 if you have the time. Something I noticed recently is that during the final section with the floor-to-floor quintuple fling, portals are placed upside-down relative to the player on the first few platforms to ensure players looking down into the portal while falling can flip forward to place the next portal without having to spin around.
The floor to floor flinging portal placement could probably use some help. Not just orientation, but getting that shot in there in the little time one would have. The entity is called info_placement_helper which has an adjustable sensory bubble that sniffs out the shot. I'll consider that in the future. It would also be helpful to those that don't know all you have to do is look down or up when entering/exiting a portal so your body doesn't do the flippity-flip each time.
For the floor-to-floor quadruple fling at the beginning, I would recommend either changing the placement of the portalable surfaces in such a way that players coming out of the exit portal are naturally facing toward the next surface they need to place a portal on , or using portal magnets and automatic portal orientation to do the same thing.
Clever use of the repulsion gel, but my critique of Part 2 also applies here. If a puzzle utilizes a new or obscure mechanic, it would help to precede it with a simpler and more obvious puzzle that utilizes said mechanic so players understand how to use it for the main puzzle and won't feel like they broke the game when they solve it.

Also, I had to perform a mid-air crouch to make the jump to the cube platform. I don't know if this was intentional, or if it was just me. This part of the puzzle would be fine as is in Portal 1, but crouch jumping doesn't work consistently in Portal 2. This might also be contributing to players feeling like they broke the puzzle. I'd lower the cube platform just enough so players aren't required to crouch jump to reach it.

Liked and faved.
