@SeQwin there;s another wreck mod that adds rail gun launch-able industrial hooks that allow you to tow subs back to stations for money, sounds like your rescue team came unprepared to me ;P

Is there also a DISTRESS beacon involved in this? I just found one deep (~3.5k down), and it was a sub being bounced on a volcano. Couldn't even get into it.

my apologies, one appeared today on radar, aparently all the wrecks i encountered on my own didnt even had a reactor room for the cabinet to spawn =_=

This doesnt seem to work if you had ur game started on spanish,coz i just crashed near a wreck and the was no ping, and the wreck cabinet have ample space left

Just a thought, have you thought about doing a slightly different mod that only adds SOS signals for some wrecks and not others? Like it's unlikely that every wreck or most will have working electronics.
