Hhhmm it makes sewnse to think that the game is loading their own sprites instead of mine. However I added the priority = 1 line ad the end of the modinfo and it still doesn't work. Doy ou wanna chat on discord, so your mod page doesn't become a chat haha

though i'm almost embarrassed by the answer, because it seems like cheating. as you you've probably observed, i didn't use postinit for either equip-able. the mod main on the lantern is entirely empty and the one for rose crown only has the name change. the trick is using the modinfo file to set the priority to 1. this tells the game to load your textures first. i feel like there's probably a more orthodox way to do it, but i couldn't find an example on steam.

bombobbit, thank you for your concern. If klei or steam asks me to take this down, i will of course comply. but my understanding of the mod guidlines is that what is forbidden is the attempt to gain access to an existing dlc asset, either by fooling the servers or recreating the art asset. i have done neither. (with the caveat that i know this is similar to the thorned laurel, but only in theme. my rose crown looks nothing like the thorned laurel skin, the latter being frankly, lackluster.)
when i become a better modder, i may re-release this mod as a unique item, but until then, i hope the powers that be look upon my efforts with benevolence.
