I have found that the AI for Lions and Tigers and No snakes , love to use ranged combat now that it seems available to them. My son thinks its great when my ships get sunk by whales. Its a great Death World mod when used with Imperial Guard.

Then you have to be with it that the Howitzer unit is considered a Renaissance Era unit by the game. There is nothing to do in my side to detect the meant era of a unit by its creator.

According to your screenshot, the Howitzer unit is unlocked at Renaissance Era, not Modern Era, and it's not considered a Modern Era unit by the game, it's mislabeled.

The Anti-Cav version of Line Infantry is indeed not affected for now.

I tested with JNR Unit Expansion mod for all classes https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2793114339
It is surprisingly work all of them new unit except Howitzer a rename Artillery and new Line Infantry the Anti Cav class version.

Ok, I see the logic. I will try to change range strenght in mod file on +2 instead of -10 for myself, will see how it goes.

But the AI actually does ranged attack if doing a melee attack would kill its own unit, if the unit doesn't have enough movement points to reach the target, or if the ranged attack actually does more damage. The last two are very unlikely to happen.

The AI only sees the higher damage output of melee attacks with no regards of retaliation damage. This is a hard-coded behavior and sadly I have nothing to do about it.

I know. I mean, computer enemies acts like in vanilla game and don't use range attack ability of firearm units, added by this mod, at all. And that gives you huge advantage.

But you can't capture cities with purely ranged attacks. If firearm units are all ranged and can only do ranged attack, you won't be able to capture any city since modern era or ahead.

Mod is good and have much sense, but looks like AI enemies always use their troops in meelee agaist same yours, wich you could force to atack in range with this mod, what gives you obvious advantage.

This mod works... oddly with wildlife. For example, wolves get 2 range.

I was a bit skeptical about this mod but I was curious. I used it for the first time and love it. It is perfectly balanced between melee and ranged. You used the ranged attack for a siege and melee when you want to charge in. It makes combat far more interesting and diverse. Fantastic Mod.

I kinda felt like the Pike and shot/man at arms should be the "melee" unit while the Musketmen would be your rennisance "ranged" unit

How does this interact with the Warfare Expanded series? I've always wanted tanks and gunships to have a ranged attack, glad to see it happen.

Good point. It's now fixed by giving ranged units from modern or ahead 1 more range.

AI will do ranged attack if they feel unsafe to engage in melee, like how they handle Persian Immortal.
