Could someone kindly clarify how bookshelves and library tables work? It's been a couple years and I've only seen the bookshelf used once (with impressive results I guess but very briefly), while the library table was used habitually to learn a seemingly random skill which I could only pinpoint by looking at which skill was slowly increasing. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong but in this run I'm keeping recreation hours pretty high.. I imagine that is how they work, since desks are used in recreation hours

Okay nevermind what I posted earlier, turns out the pawns gain zero skill once they reach the daily XP limit, no matter if they're assigned or not. If you have the Mad Skills mod you can set the daily XP limit to a super high number like 100000, then it works fine.

I have the same issue as Velociraptus reported on 1.5. Pawns execute the learning action, but the skill doesn't increase. There's no error in the logs, and after a while I noticed that it only happens when you assign the learning task at the desk to a specific pawn. If you set it to any pawn, then it works fine.

I've had my pawns learning at the tables OK.

Just bear in mind, there are many ways both base game and other mods can cap/slow learning down. I had to shut off daily learning cap, and since I use Vanilla Expanded Skills, I also found that the "passion" tweak can make non-passion learning debuffed by 75%.

Is this working on 1.5? Some report the pawns may execute the learning action but the skills won't actually level. Could someone confirm or deny this?

@cybervirus ok it doesn’t work for me. My pawns do the learning but their skills don’t improve at all. Plus there was this weird bug where my shelves turned into mini versions and they only went back to normal size when I removed this mod.

it seems this nuked my save when i removed it. very sad

Not sure if its a bug or what but the books and data cores are outlandishly expensive and provide no boost. Also children that cannot learn a skill will use the desk to try and learn a skill and get stuck on it.

Would love it if somehow you could teach lessons to children at these desks to satisfy learning need. I don't really want to have like 10 desks sitting around.

So it might be that I have about 30 children and 30 learning desks. However, my game horribly lags when the children are doing the learning bills. I've checked my Dubs Performance Analyzer (so grateful for that mod, would definitely recommend) and my EndCurrentJob and JobTicks and stuff like that were spiking causing my game to jitter and freeze every 3-4 seconds or so. I'm curious as to whether or not there's a way to adjust this mod... either through the game or through the file with the mod author's permission (or if anyone else has any ideas to get around the freezing) to extend the duration of the learning bills but increase the XP gained from them? Just so that there's less bills being CONSTANTLY processed.

how well does this balance when related to the learning mechanics of the recent update/ DLC adding children and learning. Merging the two together in some aspects would be nice.

Would it be possible to make the jobs longer? Simple learning is a great "catch all" for jobs to keep pawns busy rather than be idle, but the job is so short it isn't the best for performance.

what are the books used for does it give a bonus to learning?

i assume this is bugged as adding a chalk or space board reduces the amount of learning which seems wrong

Hate to be "that" guy, but the recreation items (bookshelves, library desks) are terrible at their job. Even the horseshoe pin is more effective. Any chance you might tweak their numbers to make them actually useful, because right now they're just an expensive waste of time :-(.

Also, can anyone please tell me what the space bookshelf is supposed to link to? No matter where I put it, it always says there's nothing to link to nearby. The normal shelves link to the library desks just fine, so... yeah, I'm mildly confused.
