I find the scenario rather easy in general, just hit and run constantly with your 2 conqs. The only annoying part is the end, when your units have no vision and are stuck on a 1 row line, and your hero that must survive decides to not fight because he can't see the enemy...
1k kills less than 15 units lost, and I lost :|
Putting it in the campaign format keeps it tidy with AI's and what not. It also prevents a player from breaking the intended gameplay by changing the settings. Doing as well as Cortez is solid! What difficulty did you play on and which lieutenant did you pick?
If you type Ctrl-S, you can cycle through on and off-grid placement of objects. I must caution you though that many objects such as trees cause problems for the AI pathing if they are placed off the grid.

Worst comment I have ever seen in my life... If you make such a comment, you should at least tell why...
Btw, there are many idiot players who think age of empires = kill and destroy everything... They can't use their brains, don't listen to dialogues, objectives, texts. For these players the forgotten campaigns and your campaigns for example are too complicated. Because of the low reading skill and braindead mentality, they stuck several times on every single scenario.
