The Combine D.E.R.C., also known as the Dark Energy Resource Converter, is an advanced version of what is essentially a drill. The Combine utilize this tool to dig deep into the earths crust, then convert all matter collected into plasma-like material which then can be converted into dark energy or back into whatever material form they desire for multitude of uses to power their weaponry and production.
