As hideous as smissmass spycrabs is, the bar for warpaints is through the floor, it gets a lot uglier.
That said, I see what you're saying, but imo all that goes out the window on the actual workshop. This isn't deviantart where you can just upload your silly art project you did for fun just to share it, putting it here is actively submitting it for approval from valve and criticism from the community. Bad items making it into the game instead of good ones affects everybody, so you shouldn't put something up here unless you're prepared for everybody who feels affected by your work to judge you and what you're doing. Workshop creators get paid, making this a professional endeavor, and as we all know professionals are supposed to have standards.
But when it's for a first item? Dunno, my first item accepted was the smissmas spycrabs warpaint, it was the second item I ever created arguably the worst warpaint in the game made solely as a gimmick. But I was blinded by pride and didn't really think of it as gimmicky or bad, was just proud of the skin at the time and plopped it on the workshop. Now i see it as god awful.
I'm with people on the fact that workshoppers should uphold themselves, but when it's a first item it's very likely it's just someone doing honest ameture work without really thinking about quality standards.
I can see your point though, it does just generally have nothing going for it, it is one of those items you have nothing to enjoy about it or day positive about, then again, someone has to start from somewhere right? Just a shame this was the one that got added.
Yeah we'd all love to be positive and supportive in our feedback but when the problems are so fundamental that the criticism can be summed up as "do something actually creative or original instead" then it makes it look obvious that the creator didn't give a shit. It's like critiquing a chef by saying "don't burn the food" or critiquing a driver by saying "don't crash the car".
If you're gonna throw yourself in front of people with your work while actively choosing to submit it for official approval, and that work is flawed enough that the universal sentiment is to just throw it out entirely and start over, you're gonna get harsh reactions. You look like you're not even trying and believe the rest of us are dumb enough to enjoy it anyway.
I personally don't like any of the items included in this case (and so do many other people, shocker, I know), despite Valve including and aiming for these wacky cosmetics, I would think it would great if you could aim to get better and try to hold you standards for your creations higher, both visually and conceptually, this model is pretty good in itself, you seem to know your way around a modelling program, I personally would like to see winter themed stuff, gloves, coats, hats etc. Stuff you could wear all year round, like the cold snap coat for example. Maybe an old WW2 buttoned up winter coat? That would be pretty cool, and I haven't seen that idea on the workshop before, and even if it is on the workshop, you could have a go at making it to see if you could do it better. Hope to see you improve!
Also dude criticism is totally fine as long as it’s not too rude.
They will tell me that the creators of the items that are put into the game should not be blamed since it is Valve's decision, but they are also to blame for creating these cosmetics that you do not give even a bit of pity for them and it shows how mediocre that they can be or become.
