My dude I am actually a few minutes away from doing so
I have thought about giving them a version of Master of Dead that discounts Death spells. Also about Master Necromancer (Death)... I kind of worry about weakening the AI. To me, a VC army with a general that can't buff or heal his troops is dead in the water.
1) I noticed that the Necromancer with the lore of death still has the skill Master of the Dead, which buffs the spell Raise Dead even though they don't have that spell making the skill pretty pointless. Could you maybe replace it with smething else? Maybe AoE damege (as opposed to the original skill's regen) and reducing cost of some spells.
2) Having the hero version made me wonder, if you could also add Master Necromancer with the lore of death? I thing it would be really neat! (Also I play with the Bloodlines:Rare Vampires mod and I think it would really compliment it.)
