What do you mean?
Instead of the left-click key? You use R to move around?
Or are you talking about the key to open the chat?

Either way, this mod only adds a feature; it doesn't touch existing things in the game. It will make it so that Enter opens the chat if it's closed and sends a message if it's open (or just close it if you haven't typed anything).
Nothing beyond that.

i have R set to the "primary" keybind, so if i type R in chat it closes the chat :(

What do you mean? I ALWAYS spam the enter key when the game is loading!!! It's WHAT BRINGS ME TO LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIFE!!!!

Hmm, that's quite peculiar since that line is run only when the Enter key is pressed.
I was able to reproduce the issue by spamming the Enter key while the game was loading, but there's no reason for it to happen otherwise.
I think that if you avoid pressing Enter while the game world itself is loading then you'll avoid the issue (using it in the chat at the character selection screen is fine).

That said, there's no reason not to protect the dereferences so that it doesn't happen then either, so I'll add that later.

I'm connecting to a public server with some mods, but it is so easy to solve that I don't need to provide more information.
This is the log: [string "../mods/workshop-2641093050/modmain.lua"]:6: attempt to index field 'ThePlayer' (a nil value)

This just happens when the game is about to finish loading. This never happened before but it happens, so you should fix it. ThePlayer is initially nil, and later set to an entity. I guess it is when the HUD is ready but the ThePlayer is not.

@RICK Did you try running this mod on a dedicated server perhaps?
This already uses GLOBAL to access ThePlayer.
Also if this bit was wrong it would never work for anyone.

If you can provide some details on what you did exactly and which other mods you had active, that'd be very helpful in resolving the issue. =)

Crash when ThePlayer is nil, you can add "if not GLOBAL.ThePlayer or not GLOBAL.ThePlayer.HUD then return end" to prevent this.

Yeah, I kept having issues accidentally typing letters too.
It's really inconvenient - for me at least - to open the chat with one key and close it with another.
I honestly don't know why the game itself doesn't have this feature; it's really something I expect (and see) in every other online game.

I can switch between enter and assigned key button in no time. But I will still use this, so I have extra hotkey available to use.
Plus I always made typo with the letter I assigned. Thanks for making this mod. I don't understand why they don't use enter AHAHA.
