Or are you talking about the key to open the chat?
Either way, this mod only adds a feature; it doesn't touch existing things in the game. It will make it so that Enter opens the chat if it's closed and sends a message if it's open (or just close it if you haven't typed anything).
Nothing beyond that.

I was able to reproduce the issue by spamming the Enter key while the game was loading, but there's no reason for it to happen otherwise.
I think that if you avoid pressing Enter while the game world itself is loading then you'll avoid the issue (using it in the chat at the character selection screen is fine).
That said, there's no reason not to protect the dereferences so that it doesn't happen then either, so I'll add that later.
