Everything should be working properly. I've not encountered any instances of floating or underground spawns since the last update I made, nor have I had any reports of the same.

@Wren Thunderstride I just played a game with them maybe two weeks ago, and spawns seemed pretty balanced. Had you changed any MES settings? You want UseModIdSelectionForSpawning enabled, though it should be by default. Try the command

/MES.Settings.General.UseModIdSelectionForSpawning.true

to be sure. Another possible factor could be the terrain, when MES is ready to spawn something in an area, it will keep searching to find *something* it can spawn. If there's not enough space for most spawns you can end up with the same ones over and over, simply because they are all that fit. Other possible reasons for spawns not showing up have to do with planetary whitelist/blacklists (overrides for that are configurable, see MES wiki) or some mods limit their spawns to planets with breathable atmosphere (nothing to be done about that except edit the mod or the planet).

Anybody have an issue where these derelicts were the majority of the spawns? I ended up removing it because the smaller grids were spawning in a much smaller frequency, so much so that I had to manually delete some to allow the other scrap to spawn in.

I had to check. Turns out there are three problematic spawns. You can disable them in MES with the following chat commands:

/MES.Settings.General.NpcSpawnGroupBlacklist.Add.Planetary Derelict Outpost 8
/MES.Settings.General.NpcSpawnGroupBlacklist.Add.Planetary Derelict D Billy's Smelter
/MES.Settings.General.NpcSpawnGroupBlacklist.Add.Planetary Derelict B Barn

There are still plenty of other things even with those three disabled.

Do these spawn with assemblers, refinery etc? I.e. blocks that would mess with Scrapyard scenario? 😁

Yes, they should spawn on any planet, vanilla, modded, atmo or not.

A friend and I are working on a salvage scenario, and one of the things we need are mods to salvage blocks from. So at some point I'll probably be looking at the KSH ships to give the same treatment. We would avoid putting the good bits in the ground, the whole idea is to avoid drilling.

Thanks for the tip! Sound like I need to make my own prefabs anyway. I certainly don't have any trouble with any of my other MES spawns, but they're all things I've built with MES in mind, and thus have remotes.

QBFreak, I had same problem in Lost Colony Encounters mod (https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2617194602) . The issue appeared after some update by either Keen or MES as it wasn't there originally. Anyway the fix is you have to have "main cockpit" in grid. Another way is to use RivalAI spawns, but then RadioControl block in each grid is needed.

Every time I try to fix that problem, I end up making things worse. I think it's because I'm using Keen's prefabs and not making my own. I thought I was being clever and making a smaller mod, but it's just really terrible.

They're too high, I make them lower. Then they're underground, so I make them higher, then they're floating again...

Next time I'm in a Space Engineers mood (early 2023 maybe?) I'll make my own prefabs and see if that fixes it. I'm kind of fed up with it otherwise.

this mod is nice but the way they spawn with the hole station mid air wants me to not play with this mod anymore. sorry.

I knew each grid spawned centered on it's origin point, usually the first block from construction. so it's was going to vary from one to the next. The weird thing was, I had spent a fair bit of time sorting out the correct height to spawn each one at. Mostly with lots of testing. Each of these was designed by Keen to have a bit that could be underground, so I wasn't too worried about that. But somehow, despite all the effort I put in, I still find the occasional spawn that's several blocks in the air. I just kind of gave up at that point. They *were* all dialed in, and then suddenly they weren't and I have no idea why.

At some point I'll get the motivation to revisit the issue. But today just isn't that day :(

When adjusting keep in mind to leave a few blocks in the ground to account for terrain.

QBFreak, regarding floating buildings, this is not a bug. Each prefab has specific "ground level" so it needs to be adjusted accordingly. faced this when made Lost Colony Encounters mod. Used to spawn each prefab separately on the lake until got the height right.

The mod seems to be working OK. If you have any other MES Planetary Installations the derelict economy stations should be somewhat rare. This is by design.

I am having a little trouble where some spawns are randomly at very wrong heights and I don't know why. For the smaller structures this manifests as appearing halfway underground, which I don't consider a big issue, but for the larger stations they occasionally appear floating. But they only way I could get them to *never* do that, was to make them half-buried nearly all the time and I just wasn't happy with that. So if you find a floating one, just delete it and spawn a new one. Or build the last few missing blocks to anchor it to the ground. They aren't that high up.

This is a great idea. A lot of those trade stations would make great starter bases with some actually interesting structure instead of the standard non-welded block platform with everything plopped haphazardly on top. It could make for some fun roleplay gaming, too, with a character exploring an apparently abandoned planet and trying to come up with a story of what happened based on what he encounters.

I haven't even gotten a chance to play-test it yet. Just the bare bones basics of making sure they don't spawn in the air or underground.

I'll polish up the page once I've had a chance to make sure it plays the way I'd like it to. Thanks for the feedback though. If you give it a go, let me know what you think.
