Since there's no trigger, you can simply remove the animation parameter from the trigger_animation brackets and have them defined in each portrait.
It's totally up to you, but if you like you could link to my version and I'll be willing to field any issues until a) you become able to work on it again or b) i become to busy to work on mine.
Again, thanks for the hard work. And you are more than welcome to use anything that I added to my version when you do resume.
