Mesi, cool mod idea. Have you looked into the ONI discord for tutorials on worldgen? I am pretty sure some modders have information on their GitHubs. Btw a small question/suggestion. Rust planets in spaced out often have the moo biome, but you didn’t include the moos, why is that? Would you consider putting moos into a version in the future?

it's a cool idea

But you mod would be more appealing and I think get more players to sub to it if there was just a picture of the map and see how the world will be generated etc
for some peoples, visual is important to identify and have interest to something, even if everything is already described with text.

@mesi - thank you for the reply; I have a feeling that modding ONI like this requires a level of intricacy that I don't think I can bother to learn (it was enough of a bother to learn the very simple scripting that goes into Skyrim/Stardew Valley modding, back when I was active in that scene).

The mod currently works. I checked out the additional planets in debug, and they seem interesting. Thanks for updating; might have a real go at it one day.

I've updated the geyser definitions and uploaded the recompiled mod - i'm kind of doing this blind but i think it should work.

@jasper_thegnome unfortunately i don't know of any good tutorials on the worldgen stuff (i never found any) - the annoying part is that some really basic stuff (like defining names for your worlds) requires writing and compiling C# code. Geysers are included in this so they're in the C# code.

Technically you can make a new world by copying the XML files in the worldgen folder, and not including any new geysers.

But hopefully this mod should be fixed now. Let me know if there are any remaining problems. It does compile and load at least.

Hi!

I am unfamiliar with modding this game, so I'm very limited in making any edits around the new way the game treats geysers. I tried removing the geyser-folder, but that unfortunately didn't get me passed the current initial crash when loading the mod (didn't think it would be that easy, but you never know).

Ideally, I would like to play this mod without the two custom geysers, and see if I can find a way to survive.

If it is trivially easy for you to, I'd like to request a separate version of this mod that removes the two custom geysers. Personally, I'd be fine with it having either no geysers at all, or limiting the spawned geysers to "bad geysers" like chlorine or infectious polluted oxygen vent.

I am aware that what I'm asking for is fairly niche. If you have any links at hand that does a good job at explaining how to create a worldgen-mod for ONI at a basic level, I would appreciate it, so I can properly gauge if it makes sense to teach myself how to do it.

I'll try to get to it soon... it looks like they changed how geysers work, again. I'm not really playing the game anymore but perhaps i can cut and paste some code from somewhere that will fix it.

Love this mod and have many hours with it... any info on when it will be updated? Happy to give some feedback on long term testing on it (many hundreds of cycles) too.

Hey, yeah i did try to make it in line with the usual number of geysers in spaced out, but, the ethanol geyser is a bit OP it's true :). I think that's why they never added one in vanilla. I added it because it was necessary to make long term nosh-based food supply viable.

The other new discoverable asteroids should provide more interesting challenges, but there's still a lot of luck involved with which geysers it spawns. It can be a bit easy if the ones it gives you are too good. Anyway thanks for the feedback i appreciate it!

Is it strange that I find this map too easy? Ethanol geysers and petrol generators are incredibly good as well as the fact that I think there are too many geysers. vents on the mini planetoid. Just my opinion, this is an incredibly interesting mod and I appreciate you making it! it's very fun! Any chance there will be an option to decrease the amounts of vents and geysers on the planetoids in order to bring it in line with Spaced Out ONI?

EDIT: I checked the amount of geysers and vents, and they are in line with vanilla SPACED OUT!!! Apologies, this is a very well crafted mod.

Was that tested using the dev mode reveal? If so it's just a bug with dev mode, you need to toggle it a few times in-game to show the plants etc. but they should be there after you do.

Normally they don't get spawned in until you visit the planet, so as to reduce game calculations.

for some reason it deletes all the plants, creatures and geysers for every map except for the starting one

Are you sure it was this mod? It seems to work fine for me, i generated a new Spaced Out world without problem.

As of the latest update, this mod make the game crash when opening the Spaced Out asteroid screen.

I updated to make the mini start a little shorter (Klei fixed a bug previously preventing this), and to guarantee a new rust-based harvestable space POI near the starting world. These will only apply in new starts.

Klei also released a cluster of new smaller-sized starting worlds! Check them out they're pretty neat. Their size is a smidgen smaller than the mini rust start, but as usual the clutter of biomes makes them feel much smaller.

Same for me, but I actually opened up the cool slush and two cool salt slush geysers. It really forced me to use different mechanics, like due to the oil being far away, the only actual cooling option is deleting heat with ethanol boiling.

That sounds good.

Of note with the mini rusteroid. I am actually growing and feeding the dupes with nosh beans of all things. I've never actually bothered with them before. And a fun little tidbit, the rusteroid is still too cold in places for even the nosh beans.... brrrr. I'm also 200 cycles in and haven't needed to open up the cool slush geyser at all. I know where it is, but my water supply is for the most part nuetral with all the ethanol I'm burning in the petrol gens + extra from the bathroom loop. And the rust deoxydizers don't use water either, so research and tofu are pretty much my only use of water.

Hey, glad you like it :). Yeah i'm planning on doing a "wasteland" start next (the biome with sweetles and grubfruit). I'm still playtesting this rust cluster, but that's next on the list.

I don't know why Klei loves to push breaking changes the same day they do a stable release.

It should be fixed now with version 0.1.2.

Oh, I understand now. Thanks for the report. You can in fact put a telescope in the smaller nosecone if you deconstruct the rocket control station and rebuild it at the top of the chamber. This is what i usually do. But i will see if i can add some coal somewhere for when the teleporter is disabled to make this less difficult.

At the beginning of the game,I didn't choose to use teleporter world。, The third planet is in fog, and the telescope needs to be built in a rocket with a top ,Coal is needed to make the top of a rocket

That's a good idea. I thought about adding new space POI but at the time i didn't know how to do it. They're hardcoded into the game, so not easily moddable. I think i did increase the number of them a little bit, but it might need tweaking. I might be able to actually mod them now that i know more about it.

There is no rocket that runs on coal. Unless you mean for CO₂, but the wood generator makes way more of that than coal ever did anyway.

There are deposits of coal on the teleporter world. Not too far out there is an asteroid with hatches and a guaranteed volcano.

i haven't played much of it, but i enjoy the map so far! I specifically think its really cool that since the teleportation asteroid didn't really have any water super close, I was instead encouraged to grab some bleach stone and make hand sanitizer for my first bathroom.

Well aside from the stress spiral, but as you said "max difficulty" i suppose this could also be considered working as intended.

Fair warning: landing on the first asteroid is brutal and you will want to take a crate full of rust.

I played about 150 cycles on the small map with max difficulty settings (except for default food), and found it to be a really enjoyable and challenging experience mixing up my usual playstyle--dealing with too much cold, food scarcity, having to make oxygen from power-negative rust deoxydizers and deal with the chlorine cloud debuffs. I haven't made it off planet yet, because I got stuck in a stress spiral is about to make my base suffocate, but it's the most fun I've had in this game in a hot minute.

Cheers :). I considered adding some shots but i wasn't sure what to post. I don't want to spoil what all the biomes are. I think the exploration into the unknown is one of the best things about a new worldgen mod.

I really wish i had a better summary picture though. There aren't even pips or mushrooms on the home planet....

Thanks, yeah it does look quite complex. The existing icons are... almost okay? I'll probably work on making more clusters rather than trying to make better art. I'm keen to try a Wasteland biome start as well.

making new asteroid images requires designing a new kanim animation files. its a rather complex process but there is some crude guides on the Oni modding discord group
