it seems we are all here because of "Giddy Up". Sometimes I forget this is a mod and not in game features.
even without it, the pen system is a pain if you want to move your cattle into safety because of weather condition.

I use giddy up and appart from riders constantly riding through forbidden/no riding zone indoor areas the mod works so far/haven´t noticed the mentioned problems thus far.
However pawns forgetting pen animals outside the pen is happening and that alone I find pretty annoying.

The Giddy Up mod messes up because your pawns will endlessly try and put them in a pen but will let them go right outside the gate. So infinite penning animals lol
And yes this mod just makes use of the zoning systems more or less, haven't played in a little while though

Also, does this remove the new 1.3 pen system method and replaces it with old zone designation method?
If so, count me in.
Old one was worlds better as animals would move on their on away from forbidden zones.

In which ways does the penning system breaks Giddy Up! mod at Ironpanther 617?
Using the mod and so far did not noticed game breaking errors.

i freaking hate the pen system, i use a LOT of animals and the pen system has made playing an absolute nightmare for me...gonna give this a try...i am still trying to figure out WHY they made the pen system which seems fundamentally WAY worse than the old way...i just dont get it.

this is actually extremely useful becuase the penning system breaks Giddy Up! mod series, really really sucks. I didnt even know how much I needed this. I can actually breed horses again!!!

Wait, so the pen system is vanilla lmao I haven't touched vanilla in so long I thought one of my 100+ mods added it. I heard about a solution on the doors where you are supposed to make it pawns only or something, not sure 100% tho

Going to use this, building pens is stressful, not even the helper tab teaches how to build one lol and my base is on a cave, it just doesn't work if the animals don't even have grass to eat.

@Xid See my comment below. Use the "Penned Animal Config" mod to turn off pens for all animals so they go back to using zones like 1.2 and earlier, and you can use Colony Manager to set up jobs to sort them out for slaughter, milking, shearing, etc. It'll be like pens never happened.

Oh well. There are a couple. I was just looking for a mod that returned animals to how they worked in 1.2 (No Pens, same trainability levels...so on) without having to find the old training level, for each animal, and then setting the level for each animal manually.

This mod doesn't touch trainability at all, just makes all animals not use the pen system. If you want to make a specific animal trainable, there's probably tons of workshop mods that do that already.

How does this effect trainability? All Penned animals are untrainable, so when this mod makes them non-penned, do they have the same trainability has they had before 1.3?

Hey guys, if you're looking to get rid of pens entirely, check out Penned Animal Config mod here (https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2557345722&searchtext=pen) . This will let you enable/disable any animals for use in pens as you wish.

Additionally, if you hate pens like I do, you can use Penned Animal Config to disable pens for all animals, and go back to using zones for holding animals as was the case with 1.2 and earlier. Plus, if you have Colony Manager installed, you can also use it to reassign animals to different zones for slaughtering, milking, shearing, etc.

Fucking THANK you. I was tearing my hair out that I can't micromanage which specific creatures are allowed in specific pens and was about to burn my fucking hair off in frustration. Plus, fences break in 1 fucking fire tick or 1 punch from raiders causing a headache when the animals just run free. Tynan must be on crack to think pens were a good idea. Here's to hoping we can get some proper micro back into the game with pens in the future cause that shit is broken.

Just for reference, the Locks mod does work with the pens system and has been updated properly for it. It's just not automatic, which is why people might think it doesn't work. How it works now is you gotta right click on the Lock gizmo (like you would if you were setting it as a lock) and select to set the particular door as a pen door.

I didn't notice it at first either, but once I did, it just works. toddhoward.gif

locks mod has an update on github that lets you mark a door as a pen door meaning animals cant exit it on their own but can be taken in by colonists

I'll add it and wait for animals to wander onto my map... I'm actually pretty confused about this whole pen system. But what I hate about it, is that donkeys can't haul anymore.

This seems useful for anyone who really doesn't like the vanilla pen.

For people who are dealing with the Lock problem: I'm not sure whether this is a bug, strictly speaking, though it is annoying enough to be called one. The problem is just that the lock prevents animals from passing through by default, even animals that are being led in by a handler. All you have to do is allow animals through the lock interface as you normally would for any colonist, then disallow them once they're in the pen (otherwise they may try to leave and get into your fridge).

Your problem sounds like the Locks mod which is currently conflicting with the pen system.
