If you're comfortable poking around in the files, you can delete the broken model files and SFM will ask to download an "update" (since it sees its files not matching the subscription's) next time it's lauched, otherwise you can just unsub and resub to this to get the whole thing redownloaded.
I've seen a fair few addons that download in broken ways (models missing, textures being wrong, etc.) and redownloading usually fixes them.

You're thinking of Final Combat, SMNC was available on Steam and had a mutual crossover/promotion with TF2 which included skins for its characters and two hats in TF2
