If anyone is looking for a more up to date version I have a similar mod that also shows how many techs are unlocked down the tree in the icon, feel free to check it out! Updated for 3.8!

Replaced the technologies folder in workshop with Eyllena's 3.7 update and now the mod doesn't work. Icons don't have any border around them.

I'm pretty sure I got all the new techs for 3.7. I also added a frame for Hyperdrive 1, since the new subspace drive civic makes it something you have to research now. Post with link to the replacement folder is up in discussions, along with a how-to for people who want to do it on their own.

@Whiteboyshuffle It's a client-side visual mod, but for the non vanilla techs needs some testing to see if it works.

Also for anyone else, the mod works just fine as of 3.6

Great idea, but it made the UI buggy for my existing game. I couldn't right-click on any systems to bring up "Survey" or "Build here". No other mods installed.

@hgwaz he's a well known youtube content creator for stellaris. one of the best known actually with some of the best videos. Considering he is showing himself in his videos I was happy I could identify HIS mod quickly by the fact that i can see HIM in it.
And as a sidenote, I personally believe if you are going to be a nerd you should at least put some energy into your own body. Nerd with muscles is significantly better than being a nerd without

So for everyone having issues with the interface getting buggy, I've found a simple fix: browse to your Stellaris local files, open the steamapps/common/stellaris/interface folder, copy the 'technology_view.gui' file from there, and paste it into steamapps/workshop/content/281990/2497748574/interface , replacing the copy already there.

I believe this is bugged to an annoying degree on 3.4, with extra spacing being added between text and boxes, making the UI look all janky.

This mod has a problem with 3.3 - on some techs (like Destroyers) it hides a line of text and only shows half of what the tech does. Please, update!

Hey Stefan, I found this after watching your essential tech and research guide looking for a UI mod to display tech tiers and unlocks and while I must admit this mod is awesome there is still so much more info that could be displayed in the icon of the techs. I have made a mock using the starting engineering research as an example: https://imgur.com/a/J2nyVQD . Would you be okay with me making a mod built on this idea?

I would have a suggestion for this mod which may fit into it.
A second inner frame representing 3 values, represented by 2 colors like grey and white and the missing of an inner frame being the thrid representation. These would stand for
- objectivly good techs under all circumstances f.e. colored white
- objectivly bad techs under all circumstances f.e. represented as grey and
- the missing of an inner frame where a tech may have situational value.

Objectivly includes any types of empires or game situation.
That way you maybe able to convey for the uniniciated or even the pros very quickly under pressure what to choose without getting too distracted by having to think too hard on the choices =)
