I guess I don't need to answer anymore, steam unsubscribed me from thread for some reason, so I didn't know about new comments.
Tainted Cain recipes are working based on quality (higher quality pickups result in higher quality items), so there is no way to avoid changing quality values without changing Cain recipes for now.
I tested this mod, seems like my mod overrides its items_metadata.xml, but starting items changes stay, so Tainted Lost becomes even easier, Sacred Orb with adjusted qualities works really well and he can still find good utility items like Book of Shadows. Mods are likely loaded alphabetically and my loads latter, so it will take priority.
I can make a mod, that would try to balance Lost with Sacred Orb, if it's really necessary.
