In different dynasties, the translation style of the same place name is different. The style of the Yuan Dynasty is the style of phonetic translation into Mongolian and then phonetic translation into Chinese. The Qing Dynasty basically uses the modern Chinese translation of place names directly, because in the end of the Qing Dynasty,The translation of foreign place names is almost the same as today. Some place names of the Ming Dynasty in Europe also adopted meaning translation or were directly named after the city’s emblem. For example, Paris is called Sanyuancheng (三鸢城), which means the city of three irises.
However, I am currently making a fantasy map of the Ming Dynasty's unification of the world. I will reset the existing place names so that it is not just a pronunciation translation of place names in other cultures, but a meaning translation, or make their pronunciation and The use of characters is more in line with the aesthetics of Chinese character users.

yes I understand the distinction within asia, but why are the names for e.g. Caen in europe not the same between ming and other non-manchu, non-mongol chinese countries?

This mod should be compatible nearly forever since it all falls under the province_names folder. Unless some province ids are flipped around (Which shouldn't happen). I wonder why your government decided EU4 videos are no longer acceptable? I'm guessing because they often show an independent Tibet and Xinjiang.

I'm a linguist who can help with real world historical names for provinces, and with Maori and Aboriginal names (though that describes over 300 different languages so I'm more familiar with some over others). Have you considered making a discord server for this mod? You might find it easier to coordinate and gather info there.

I can kinda help with Tamil cultured names. If you colonize Australia it should be called as Kumarikkandam, after the Tamil legend of the lost continent. Otherwise writing Tamil with the Latin alphabet can be a challenge, just know that Google Translate is wrong on the spelling.

Portuguese Mexico is been called"Nova Portugal", but the better way to call it would be "Novo Portugal". If you need help with portugueses names, you can message me.

You should really take the province names for some of your missing cultures straight from Rosetta psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2167406869 since that mod has been abandoned twice now. Could really use some scandinavian province names and such since they did have a minor colonial empire irl. Thanks.

Why not try Italian? For Matrega, you could use Santa Caterina and for Tana, you could use Porto Toro.
