I just found out the lag is only so wacky when using certain characters but not for any obvious reason. For example, for me, the character who was getting a lot of lag when fighting him is Lucy but she normally doesn't have lag problems at all so I have no idea why it's her specifically.

I found a workaround. Download Big Yoshi instead, equip Boss Buddy, do parry input during countdown.

I actually like this. Regular fat Yoshi is fun, and this guy makes a good boss. ...Or a good way to feel like a boss if you want to play as a big rump'-n'plump' dino.

Well if it can run a moderately optimized 3D sandbox game with dozens of mechanics but not a big yoshi, then there's something wrong with big yoshi and not the computer.
