Enable it in the in-game mod manager then change settings for it in the mod options (in options menu).

OOhh, I was increasing the protect range way too much, every time it was selected it spawned a crapload of hexes (not a crash on a smaller map, but if you have a large base then it was enough objs to crash it).

I've limited it now, lag is gone and crash as well.

"Known Issues: Selecting MDS Lasers will lag for a sec each time, no idea why." For me, selecting a laser in a save game resulted in a ten second lag then CTD.
