I haven't played Gladius recently or bought the latest DLC, so balancing and giving DLC units the trench ability is beyond me. Feel free to mod this to suit your game.

Copy the mod to Documents\Proxy Studio\Gladius\Mods, then edit Trenches.xml in Data\World\Traits to adjust buffs like <cityDamageReduction add="0.15"/>. To add the trench trait to other units, duplicate and rename the Guardsmen file in Data\World\Units\faction, replacing "Guardsmen" with the target unit name in the file.

Rename the main mod folder and delete any Steam ID info to ensure it shows up in-game.

Could this be updated to include the Tempestus Scions as capable of creating trenchworks? The definitive canon Tempestus Scions would be the Cadian Kasrkin who are by their very names the creators of entrenchment fortifications.

Would you consider increasing the bonus from 15 percent to 17 percent to follow the vanilla convention for damage reductions? It's not a big deal, but it's confusing otherwise (beside, I'd take any percentage increase I can get! ;)) I assume the devs chose 17 to 33 to 50 to mimick six sided die rolls as closely as possible, and it is intuitively makes more sense for us tabletop players, too.

@lurido outposts take up the same slot on a tile? - Outpost already have the same modfier as Trenches

Well i guess that's a feature now. But i can't change how the game works if a Bastion is considerd a Unit well then.

Just tested it and it does get affected by trenches, you can build a bastion inside of the trenches

@OcN.Helbrecht I did not test this. I think if bastions are handeld as units this effect can stack but i dont know if this is possible.

Very interesting results, I'll have to take a look at how you did that. I intend to make my patch anyway because I think it fits thematically to have my abilities clear the trenches too. :)

I fixt it by adding the trenches to the imperial ruin category as this is a viable category for tile removal and "none" is not ^^

I tested it very shallow so i dont know if this broke something else so please report any strange behavior with the trenches.

Oh, thank you very much for confirming this.

I have discovered Kurziel's work, he makes interactive ruins when destroying cities or (ship)wrecks when destroying a big unit, and he created a "Salvage" skill for that, I figured I'd integrate the cleaning of trenches into this skill. It still adds a skill on the interface, but since it does so much it seems acceptable.

I searched everywhere for the "Clearing Tile" action, but to no avail.
In the localisation it's in the >Actions folder, but no such thing exists in World> subfolders, it's not in Features> nor Traits> (it could be hidden there but I doubt it) it's also not tied to the tile's characteristic nor the cleaning unit's abilities,

I know you''re not interested in this feature to begging with, but if you have an idea to help me find it that'lll be cool, otherwise I guess it ends there. ^^

I also love the idea of incorparating the removal of trenches to the "Clearing Tile" feature, and after I'm done with all the translations I'll give this a try, even if I notice that it conflicts with other mods and end up not even using it haha.

To be specific you need to add a Renegade Guardsmen file to the mod folder:
Data\World\Units make a the explizit faction folder here and set up a Renegade_Guardsman.xml.ext file here. You can copy paste the Guardsman.xml.ext file for this and rename it,
I think you need to change this line to the right something:

<action animation="Units/AstraMilitarum/GuardsmanIdle"
sound="Actions/Construct"/>
</model>

But that should do it.

Fair, fair. Was just a thought as I found after running a protracted game and being pushed hard that the cover I once used was now being used against me and back-filling a trench (like in reality) would have been a nice option to negate their advantage when they moved up.

This would entail modification to either the "Clearing Tile" ability which makes this mod not so compatible anymore or an addition of an extra ability just to clear trenches which feels awkward. I dont think both ideas are not very good.
