What anti-steal?

This is extremly stupid and messy way, but in E2 manual this formula uses about 30ops, while your code combined (30ops - create, 15ops - color, 15ops - alpha) uses about 60ops.
And it doesn't matter where particles do spawn, they'll return to their position after all.
Unless E2 manual's wrong as usual.
Side note: you can use y++ to count up just like in c++
