I'm sorry but this is all old land now-- I don't have anything to do with Rome 2 anymore, now that Atilla has been out for some time.

This mod doesn't need to be updated. Works just fine for me, although the unit cards do not look that aesthetically pleasing.
cool
My video card is broken, so I can't play it now, even if I wished to.

But yes, I am on a break from it. I'll want to start playing again in a few months though.

SquireEwokonTitan - Graet mod and I request permission to add this mod into my "all in one" mod, credits will be given to you, thanks

Sorry for late reply. Thanks a lot, mate. Credits will definitely be given. I appreciate this :)
I don't mind people using my mods.
So long as they ask first and credit me of course.

Feel free to use them.
Permission to integrate your mod into mine?

I'm not really good with these cultures so I'd suck with doing any work to them. You've done a fanstastic job ;)

Cheers :D
I will look at this mod again soon though - I"m just busy working through various factions/cultures - and I'd like to improve it, add in more units. Indeed fix those bloomin' awful unit cards!

Unfortunately, there aren't any skin textures that really match that region.
I kind of hate how the game represents the African warriors as more West Africans than Eastern African people, like modern day Somalia or Ethiopia...
High Shill Unito 2014
Hey i love your mods, and this one just made the game 10 times more fun to play :D
Is there any plans on releasing Heroes for Axum ? An elephant hero would be awesome :D
Yo I just did that and now its saying its compatible, lol. I'm gonna add chariots (recruitable and as generals) to the aethiopian factions in my next real update of the Combo. Meroe used chariot archers so I will see if I can make that happen.
I didn't do anything other than just upload it again.
how did you make your mod compatible with the new patch. I can't seem to make mine compatible. I even tried to redo the patch modifying the patched romedata2 pack and it still told me it was not compatible with the new update. I played it and it worked fine. Is there something I'm missing. Sorry to bug you with this, but I figured since we modded in sort of the same circles you might know what was going on.
Axum is officially one of the coolest factions with this mod.
i stopped m other campaign and started a axum campaign. its really cool.
Xagyg 2014
Squire Titan, sorry for taking so long to respond.I want you to know in no way was I ragging on your mod,and I have come to understand what you meant about history pretty much being left behind as soon as you start a game,The Iceni, ugh, any of the barbarian factions get pretty boring when you do not have some new, cool tech to unlock.Maybe if they release a late Roman period or dark ages mod will the "barbarians" finally get their day in the sun.Hoping to see a mod with the Slavs,as I descend from Polish stock. You are a great modder, will keep an eye out for more stuff to come!
King of Bactria 2014
lol
dunnerstick69: Adding in unique buildings and technology is beyond my abilities as a modder at the moment. It will also add an big layer of complexity to the mod causing a lot of compatibility issues with other mods.
I like to try and design my unit packs to only have units, and no other changes-- as it means it will work with any mods.

A person best qualified for what you suggest would be the designer of the 'Rebirth' mods, which are excellent, I always use them. It'd be a good suggestion to ask them to design an African Rebirth to go with the Barbaric Rebirth and Hellenic Revival.
this mod is amazing!!!!!!!!
I'd request, if you could, a change in their culture to that of African Kingdoms or something to that likeness and with that itd be cool if you could add unique Religious/cultural buildings for them. It would make it much more imersive.
Didn't realize those were eastern. Shows I need to up my game on Eastern history, lol. Still. Awesome mod. I don't think you need to change anything at all. I would like to use some of the nubian units for the other factions, but all in good time. I think we need to spend more time being greatful people have these skills to better our gaming experience. Keep up the good work!
King Crusader 2014
Well done good sir!
Count Awesome:Axum should be able to. They aren't recruitable by other African nations in custom battles-- I will probably add that in later, but it's not a priority at the moment.

scottfree001:Most of the helmets I use are eastern, and it's only the later units that start wearing armour. One has to consider that if such a nation did start expanding its territory and began threatening Greek states, Rome.. etc they aren't going to get very far wearing cloth armour. It's the same for the Barbarians.

I agree with you on historical accuracy counts, if we were to look at the game as historians. But as far as authenticity is concerned, it's not so important as having a bit of faction uniqueness. There's plenty of Hellenised cultures already in the game (half the map!).

Remember also it isn't just focus on Axum - Blemmyes and Meroe also can recruit these units in the campaign. More than anything it's an Aethipian unit pack for the Grand Campaign.
Erkel 2014
units do not show up in custom battles
*The morale of the Aethiopian troops is PERFECT. They are by most accounts tough soldiers. The only bad report they ever got was from the Romans, whom strangely right after the battle, signed a peace accord with them favorable to the Aethiopians (Meroe). Those same Romans consistently sought out Nubian horsemen and bowmen as mercenaries. The Blemmyes remained a big problem for Roman Egypt until the 3rd century and also made good recruits into its armies.

I hope this was helpful. You could change nothing on this mod and I would be happy. I just wanted to provide some insight to African culture/warfare where I could.
*Animal warfare for the Axumites was mainly restricted to horseback. They did not use camels. That was more of a Blemmye thing. The Axumites did use elephants in warfare, but not native African elephants. They imported the more docile breed from India. Meroe was the center of cavalry culture in Aethiopia if not the whole of Sub Saharan Africa until the rise of the West African states in the middle ages. Meroe kings were sometimes buried with horses. That's how a big a deal cavalry was to them. They were so good on horseback (never on camels) they were often hired by the Romans (see the siege of Jerusalem). Meroe was as much feared for their horsemen as they were for their bowmen (whom used the composite bow)
*I'd also scale back the Hellenic helmets. Axum DID use a lot of Greek tech, more than the Nubians anyway. Greek was also a language of the royal court and can be found on their coins. However (you knew that was coming), Axum didn't start going Greek until the 3rd century AD. So, maybe give those to the very latest/advanced units.
*Aethiopians were fine metal workers. Armor was not common, as some here have already pointed out. But they were producing and using iron at a remarkable rate, especially in Meroe. This metal working went into jewelry and weapons though, NOT ARMOR. The Aethiopians were capable of importing armour through the red sea and up the Nile, but there was no desire for it. IT'S HOT. For historical accuracy, I'd try to keep the armored units to bodyguards or top tier units. Everyone else would be using padded armor or nothing at all. Shields would be almost exclusively made from hides because trees were too important to coal production/iron smelting.
*Not all Aethiopians are the same. The Meroe kingdom are Nubians. Heavily influenced by Ancient Egypt. Same gods. Same government with the exception of a greater role for women rulers and commanders. The Blemmyes are also Nubians but they were nomadic and masters of camel and horse warfare. The Axum kingdom were NOT NUBIANS. Modern scholarship shows that they were NOT SABEANS either. Axumites are a different "race" (yes black people are composed of different races). They had contact with Arab tribes across the red sea and some even settled in Axum, but their civilization is indigenous. The influence of Arabia can be found in agriculture and architecture, but the native population never had a sizable Arabian factor. Arabs came over as merchants and priest, not warriors. That being said, the religion was very different from the Nubians.
Hi. I AM an African history "expert" in that I've researched just about every major civilization on the continent prior to colonialism. I find your mod very fascinating. Some points to consider.

*Axum should probably not be be in the game. I'm glad they are there. I love that STEAM is finally showing Africa some love. However there wasn't a centralized Axumite state until 100 BC at the earliest. The "city" (and I use this term loosely) may have existed by the time the game starts in the 3rd century BC. But historians refer to any time before about 100 BC as proto-Axumite (right after the fall of the D'mot/Damot kingdom).

*Aethiopia as a whole was not BACKWARDS by this period. You don't live right next to the world's 1st superpower (Ancient Egypt) and not learn anything.
thethingthatshouldnotbe: I have considered what you were saying about the early to early-mid game units looking 'culturally correct', and as such I've decided to rework the look of the Lion units a bit; they do kind of look a bit more advanced than their cost suggests.
No, I've started a new unit pack just for Egypt.

General Rubenski 2014
Can you recruit these unit for Eygpt?
