Double clicking doesn't seem to do anything on my end. Just moving the .vpk to the addon folder was enough.

@sirieca

You're not following the instructions correctly then. The mod still works, and has worked for 4.5 years. Nothing has changed.

its not working:steamthumbsdown:

@Vurify it's not actually a required step, I just encourage it as the addon installed by the workshop does nothing without the other steps. You can just unsubscribe from it

hi sir, on step 7, how do i uninstall the addon?
Pong 15. apr. 2023 kl. 12:38

@God's drunkest driver - delete the file you put in Programs Files > Steam > SteamApps > common > Left 4 Dead 2 > left4dead2 > addons
Pong 15. apr. 2023 kl. 11:15

@OUTLAWWZSCOPE - no need to (and also I'm not even sure of how to do it lol). Glad to have helped.

@Crohnos Done! https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2619041852
How can I add you as a contributor on the addon page?
Crohnos  [ophavsmand] 3. okt. 2021 kl. 10:18
@OUTLAWWZSCOPE open your Left 4 Dead 2 Authoring Tools in your Steam library (if it doesn’t appear, make sure you have “tools” checked at the top of your library). The options it gives you are fairly straightforward to uploading
OUTLAWWZSCOPE 3. okt. 2021 kl. 1:01
@Crohnos Everything works correctly. Now I just need to learn how to upload it to the workshop. I don't see any upload addon options anywhere.
Crohnos  [ophavsmand] 2. okt. 2021 kl. 22:12
@OUTLAWWZSCOPE once you upload yours to the workshop it'll be given its own number regardless of what the addon file is called. If you're testing something locally but don't want to upload to the workshop, just make sure the number is different from any other installed addon (or rather, it can be named anything - you don't need it to be a number if you're locally testing)

@Crohnos No problem. One final question (I hope). Would this mod conflict with yours (not in-game, but on the system) as they have the same file name 2261884398? I installed the one I edited, and I know bc it has the name I gave it, but it's not showing up in the game's addon list.

I doubt anyone has been choosing these numbers as their addon file names, so there must be a way for Steam to auto assign a file name that isn't currently in use. How do I do that for the version of your mod that I edited?
Crohnos  [ophavsmand] 2. okt. 2021 kl. 21:41
@OUTLAWWZSCOPE Ah, I forgot that part. My apologies.
OUTLAWWZSCOPE 2. okt. 2021 kl. 21:27
@Crohnos Got it. I didn't have the L4D2 authoring tool. Now that I have it the vpk showed up. Thanks.
Crohnos  [ophavsmand] 2. okt. 2021 kl. 11:17
@OUTLAWWZSCOPE Yes the addon file. And vpk isn't a folder, it's an executable. make sure it's the game's base directory "/bin".

The folder that comes out of it will have my mod extracted for you to easily change the values to what you want. Once you've done that, drag the entire folder that came from you dragging the file over the vpk executable, back over the vpk executable to repackage it
OUTLAWWZSCOPE 1. okt. 2021 kl. 23:41
@Crohnos when you say drag the addon I'm guessing you're talking about the Source Game Add On file itself, not the resource folder or txt file alone? I used GCFScape to extract initially, but I'm not sure how to import the new text file into the addon.

I'm also not sure what you mean by drag it over "vpk" as there is no folder inside "bin" labeled "vpk." Am I missing something?
Crohnos  [ophavsmand] 1. okt. 2021 kl. 8:10
@OUTLAWWZSCOPE if you go to Programs Files > Steam > SteamApps > common > Left 4 Dead 2 > bin, drag the addon over "vpk" to unpackage it. Once you're done editing, drag the folder over "vpk" again to repackage it. Then you can install it the same way as the instructions for this mod
OUTLAWWZSCOPE 1. okt. 2021 kl. 0:05
@Crohnos Where's the mod package and install directory located? I'm new to this, but I'll learn quickly with a bit of guidance. I pretty much change characters every time I change campaigns (ie: RE1, 2, 3, and Hive), so if I were able to create these for ppl like me who want the names to match, I will absolutely credit you in all of them.

Btw great job on this. Works perfectly.
Crohnos  [ophavsmand] 19. maj 2021 kl. 21:03
@ThePhenomenalOne you'll need to compile your own mod for it, but it's pretty simple. If you drag the mod package on your file system onto <install directory>/bin/vpk, it will unpackage it for you. There you'll seea text file that designates the survivor name labels in game. Change the names to what you want them to be, drag the folder onto the bin/vpk, and you should be able to drag it to the addons folder & click to install
ThePhenomenalOne 19. maj 2021 kl. 18:13
How do you change the names to match the character? Im trying to do that if possible? Like for example i have zoey as jill how can i change that? If it can be done
