@Cthulhu Placing them should be fine, the buildings were tested by multiple people. If you keep having problems, grab a mod that lets you place them anywhere. Road anarchy should work for example.

I have a problem with one of these buildings; I can only build it on shoreline, which is odd. I don't know if I changed something accidentaly. Do you happen to know what the problem may be?

These are very beautifully done. The style of this type of building from San Francisco had a significant impact up the rest of the West Coast in the 1800s, even into British Columbia.

@carpet Unfortunately not, but you could go into the asset editor and detail each house as a prefab, so you only have to decorate them once.
