I tried it just now and it seems to work as normal? I have the HUD, mod settings, gain XP and level up with perk selection?

What is it that doesn't work for you? Are you using any other mods at the same time? Which game mode are you playing?

@Kirby: I am sharing some good advice. Unless you are able/willing to make it to where perks like "More Blood" can only be taken once, then I see nothing wrong with its current behavior.

They are not the only perks that stack and create interesting or otherwise hilarious results. More Blood, specifically, is one to not take more than once or twice due to the amount of fluid physics it forces the game to generate. Hit Kami with 10+ Angry Ghosts and a Plasma Drill and I was wondering if the game was going to crash

@Onbo: Perk pool rollback is not intended if you mean what I think you mean by that. I will take a look when time permits.

@Atreju There are some options in the mod settings menu, but I'm not sure it'll do what you want right now. Will take a look and try to add more control there if necessary.

@Talon: Are you highlighting a way the mod is behaving differently in perk selection than vanilla (unintended), or are you sharing generally good advice? :)

Quick things to mention:

Angry Ghost actually stacks, so can result in very silly things

DO NOT GRAB MULTIPLE STACKS OF MORE BLOOD. It will lag your game to an insane degree as it will cause a flood of blood, especially if spells that cause a lot of blood generation are used on enemies (especially bosses).

is there an easy way to move the spot where the xp counter and icons appear?
when i'm using the x3 inventory mod the xp and perk overlays on the inventory and sometimes it's hard to see perks or the inventory :\

Works well, I was able to go full god mode without ever entering a PW (had a very lucky combination of gold related perks towards the beginning, but you could do this with any run if you're able to stay alive long enough to stack lots of greed/trick greed). I like that it makes perks like gold is forever and attract gold worth taking. Also, it's a nice bonus that if you take a bunch of "extra perk" you can still see each one individually because they're not all trying to cram together on the tiny altar. Thank you for making this!

@Marads~Yuuka It's a good idea, but I think it may cause UI overlap problems with some other mods. If you have set GUI visibility to "World" or "Always" and the GUI is minimized the menu toggle button shows "(LVL+)" when you can level up. Not always perfect but I hope it is a compromise that works for some folks!

@ThatClassyWhiteD Thanks! I really aimed to keep the game basically vanilla balanced so that's great to hear! :) (Watering a fire elemental in the mines is so satisfying..!)

I gotta say, this is really well done! I've been playing with a few other level up mods, but yours feels the most balanced. The other ones always gave additional hp, and a free perk, whereas this feels much more in-line with normal progression. It actually encourages the player to take their time and try to get physics kills to maximize their gold early game.

It would be good to have the level and exp text on the top along the "[+] ALIEN", this way we only need to open the meny to get new perks after a level up.

I've just updated the mod with a bunch of fixes and added mod settings for a couple of requested things, plus a little tweak for nightmare mode. I've done my best to test the new stuff, but if something odd slipped through please let me know. Thanks for your patience and feedback! :)

Bug- Taking a perk (in this case Lukki mutation) does not properly end the availability of a perk, resulting in mod gui being hidden. In addition, when restarting game in this state, more perk choices are given, identical to perk choices before bug was activated, which are pickable, and rerollable, giving infinite perks. Note that chosen perk was not properly diplayed on perk list (though effects were still applied), and that this may have been an interaction with noitavania or edit wands alway, which I was using both of.

A workaround for the UI disappearing issue: Save and quit, then reload. The mod will be returned to the state before you picked the bugged perk. You won't be able to take it but you'll be able to reroll it away or store it or discard it and then return to normal play.

Can you add a mod setting to set defaults of open/close and inventory/main? because having to start every run with "Open, switch" is a little irritating

I have been paying attention to the comments here! Unfortunately I'm a bit busy with university course work, and for some reason Noita isn't starting up for me on Linux. The perk selection part was written based on code from a few patches ago and I think I need to redo all of that now. I haven't made any special case for Nightmare mode, I would have to look at that specifically and make a special case. Always cast being broken probably depends on some RNG and would have to be a part of the perk selection rewrite. UI breaking could be due to a lot of things, hard to say what before I can sit down and debug it.. These are pretty major issues and I hope I can get some time to work on them sooner rather than later. Usually the more details provided with a bug the easier it is for me to find it, so anything helps! Thanks for letting me know of the issues you've been having.

The "Always Cast" perk always gives the same spell, it only changes per run, not per perk

I am also having issues with the UI disappearing when taking certain perks.
Further, would it be possible to make a change to ALIEN to reflect the fact that the three starting perks in Nightmare now don't all go away when you take one? Dunno how easy it'd be, but it'd be nice.

the UI seems to break when choosing certain perks. So far, I have had projectile repulsion field and projectile sector both cause the UI to disappear, and I can no longer gain XP or choose perks

Anyone else never get any perks from this? Am I missing something? My holy mountains are empty and when I "level up" nothing happens.

IDK if this problem has been brought up but the perk duplicate even when you have the same perk already active.

I went all the way to the tower and I kept getting duplicates throughout my whole run.

One thing I'd had as an idea was picking up gold (not nuggets, but the individual pixel terrain gold) giving 1 xp per pixel, as I believe they also give 1 gold each pixel

@Illegal I can see it. I don't want to be the kind of person telling others what's fun and not, so I think what I'll do is add a modifier to how strongly greed affects XP gain in the config files for the mod and set the default to 0. No promises on when though, I have some uni stuff going on atm and I don't wanna break the mod with something rushed.

Perhaps you could factor it in without going full-blown x2 xp? So let's say I pick up one stack of greed. You could maybe increase xp gains by 10% for the first stack. And then a second greed perk would add 5%. And then from then on it'd be 1%. Just a thought! In general, I do understand why you decided to not factor it in initially.

Yeah, that was intentional. The trick greed multiplier does work, since it spawns more gold, so that's a bit inconsistent. Greed would really be a no-brainer pick every time if it did multiply XP, and "break" progression in ways it doesn't in vanilla, so I'm hesitant to factor it in for XP.

A small thing I'd like to note: Greed has no effect on the value of 'xp' earned from gold pick ups. I'd like to see this remedied, as Greed could be an amazing perk with this mod, if you happen to roll it. I understand hesitation over fear of making the player OP if they get multiple rolls of greed, but I feel like that's just luck being luck

I set up the perk generation basically as a copy paste from how the devs did it, so it should behave like vanilla. Granted, that was a couple of updates ago and I should probably double check that is still behaving like vanilla does now.

I was just asking for the sake of knowing! After playing with your mod, it's much more preferable in terms of perk gains. However, I do need to ask you one last question; are perks randomized forever? AKA, I won't have the same choices after however long.

@Illegal This mod doesn't do anything except tie perks to levelling up by picking gold. I've thought about doing a more involved levelling mod once this one matures, but I've already got a fair bit of work I should do on this before that happens. The goal for this mod is to mostly preserve the vanilla gameplay but save you from having to do [spoilery but crash-prone things] in the end game to progress more.

What scales as you level up, exactly? What stats are affected? Or is it just a way to get perks?

@Chromatic Flare: Thanks for reporting it! I was able to reproduce this bug when being polymorphed while having the UI expanded outside the inventory and have fixed that issue (UI will not render while polymorphed, however). If you had this issue with the UI not expanded or set in the inventory please let me know and I will look further to see what could cause that.

Hey Kriby, I think I've run into a bug. Once I've become afflicted by chaos polymorph and revert back to normal, the tracker and menu are gone.

@doughlesg14b: I agree, including description tooltips was something I wanted to do when I first made the mod. Back then I couldn't figure out a way to do it with the mod API; even the icons were sort of hacked in. I missed the API update back in november which made all that stuff easier. I've updated the mod to use those API functions now instead, so now there are perk descriptions! The perk icons also look a little different because of this. The API image buttons require you to click the actual icon, so that's different too.

On the note of perk descriptions, perhaps the UI could render them in the same way that "Goki's Things" does? It shows the perk icon, and when hovered it shows the description.
