Does this mod work right?
Uh, because that's realistic?
Oldman 2023
wtf would you want to increase chance of death in childbirth?
Fridericus Rextard 2022
Hey m8 I've added you cause I wanted to ask if I could upload an updated and revised version of this mod (with full credits ofc)
Please update!! This is the best mortality mod
Rhet 2022
I just want to note it something here, as it's the only mod I use that affects death rates that I'm aware of. It also could be the case of bad luck honestly as well. In my latest game, started after RC came out, most of the women in my family are dying in childbirth.

So far, I'm in the 3rd generation family wise. As of now I've had five daughter's die in childbirth out of six. The sixth died by drowning so never got the chance. Extended family hasn't had any daughter live long enough to have kids yet on their end.

With that being said, most die in the first or second time around. I did have one that manage to have four before dying to the 5th. So again could just be bad luck. Or maybe there's a gene that increases the odds that my family just happens to have.

Not game breaking or anything naturally. I personally enjoy the increased death rates this mod overall. Chaos reigns which always helps the game not become dull!

This needs to be updated properly for royal court. Damned everyone keeps dying now.
Is anyone else noticing a bug where characters with the Whole of Body trait will not actually die? Pope Stephanus is currently over 120 years old, dying, and has yet to actually kick the bucket in my save

Thatrandomtoast the population during the medieval period definitely grew, between 1000 and 1300 the population in Europe doubled, which by modern standards seems small, but by comparison 500-1000 and 1300-1500 there was no population growth, in the former because of technological regression post Rome and the instability of society, in the latter because the plague completely destroyed Europe. But in the bulk of the period CK3 covers, population growth was solid and steady across Europe.

So there's this issue that when women are betrothed they move to another court too early to finish their education so they end up with their childhood traits and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ skills can you set the female adult age to 16 agai?
One suggestion: death via childbirth should be even more common than you have it, but skewed to earlier birth order and age. That is, death giving birth should be ~10% for a 15 year old bearing her first child, dropping down to the 5% you have here for a woman in her 20s on kid #3

this would be great but i wish there was a way to increase child mortality even further. There shouldn't be 6 kids for a count. The count, or anyone really, should be able to produce like 8 kids, and have around 6 of them die from childbirth to beginning of adulthood. Pretty sure the human population remained pretty stable in middle ages and we need much more death so there is less bordergore and inheritance problems.

Will this be updated lol
does this still work?
Great mod, one question though. Will female adult/childbearing age change impact female education?

Is this compatible with Improved Genetics mod?
Does the increased birth rate affect the peasant folk too or just landed people?
Teappuccino is inaccurate with his information. Menstruation began in the middle ages at roughly the same time it does today. As an example, Margaret Beaufort, mother of England's Henry VII, became pregnant with him at the age of 12.
I like the idea of this mod!
@teappuccino well long ago life wasn't as healthy as ours so their lifespans were shorter. not a lot of people were able to live past 60 years old. So with that being the case people were considered adults at a younger age and genetics did it's work with females making their womanly functions come at a younger age. It's not like they had dental care or even a technologically advanced hospital to help them.
"Lowered female adult / childbearing age to 14" The average age of first menstruation was roughly 17, so this isn't accurate at all.
I'm not sure, but I think this mod may be preventing my characters from having beauty-related traits (good or bad), like Hideous or Comely. Has anyone else experienced this?
Private Bill 2020
Just to let you know, that resulted in my Duke of Bohemia passing of natural causes in 1068. I played about 2 years and he died in his 30's
@romaine06 this mod reduces health on average (this is the only lever to reduce life expectancy).
I like the idea, in general, but I think increasing the number of offspring (base) is only good when in monogamous marriages. In Polygamous relationships, I end up having a dozen or more offspring. But lowering the fertility age is good. I think life expectancy should definitely be lower throughout the game (more historically accurate). Increasing health? I don't really like that idea TBH. The middle ages, especially in Europe, was a cesspool.

Awesome :clapclap:

Now a patch for Improved Genetics would be awesome. Maybe I can look into it and see if it is very tricky to patch......
Nice mod .
May you also make the male adult / childbearing age to 14 ? thank .
Tested with 1.1 - works perfectly. Updated charts uploaded in images above.
@steven801117 yes it's expected

@usagi thanks. I had adult set as 15 and marrying as 14. fixed both as 14 now. let me know if this works

@CommunismRules @Nocan good suggestions, looking into how to do it

@MIKA added to the description, it's compatible with ongoing saves
So many people died between 30~40, is that normal ?
"Lowered female adult / childbearing age to 14."
but some things like invite to court say that character is not adult and she gets married off at like 14 before i get chance to invite to court. 2 years before i can invite
Bob 2020
This is really nice, I would suggest increasing the mortality rate at childbirth and infant age, it would be a lot more historically accurate.
Elder 2020
Maybe increase the chance of disease rather than natural causes? Feels a bit less random. Still, love the idea!
That's pretty good change! Thumbs up!
How about ongoing save compatibility?
i think thats a base game issue with mayors being generated too healthy for their age
I just saw one mayor die 112 years of age.. a lot of variability :)
