That's a known bug with modded Shogun 2, not unique to this particular mod. There's a fix in the mod description above.

I don't know if this is intended or not, but Tokugawa Mounted Gunners still require the Gunsmith. I assumed that they would be recruitable from a Powder Maker since you say that's the requirement for "elite matchlock units".

Does this mod affect siege tower bune recruitment? I have the requirements (gunpowder mastery + a trading port) on my ikko ikki campaign but they do not show up in the recruitment tab

Does this mod mess with the matchlock range? Because my matchlocks all have 150 range and I can't figure out why because I don't have any mods that would do that, at least I think.

is there a cap on how many tercos you can recruit? cause for me it doesnt let me recruit more than 2 units, if thats the case and there is actually a cap where should i go to remove it?

I didn't specifically try it without DLCs, but I don't think this would need any of them.

Yeah that's a general problem with modding Shogun 2, so it's not really related to this mod and the CA should've fixed it a long, long time ago. You can try the fix here, worked for me so far

Mod's Great! Quick bug though, Non faction Bow Ashigaru are making handgun sounds. not a big concern mostly just kinda funny.

Oh thanks! I'm not sure if it's as good as it should be since the animation itself is a bit janky and back lines may still not fire due to weird line-of-sight issues, but it still performs better than the vanilla. I could've increased the reload bonus even more, would like to hear your feedback if you use this.

Honestly I had overlooked monks because their building req. was on another table. Just pushed an update to fix it, don't have the time to properly test it but it shouldn't break anything. Gunsmith should also provide -1 rec. time for them, but no XP bonus, since their bonus comes from the temple chain. Nice find!

Hi! You can do that pretty easily with Pack File Manager. You can google that and find tutorials on Total War Center, it's very easy to use, basically Excel with a different UI. So open my mod (under Shogun 2 data folder, named bt_earliermatchlock or sth like that) with PFM, go to first table (building effects junction) and remove the entry/row with samurai_matchlock_ recruitment time. Then go to the third table (building units allowed) and remove the entries with missile_matchlock_samurai, its otomo&hattori variants and heavy gunners. That should revert any changes to non-ashigaru units back to Vanilla.

Thanks for the mod!

I like everything here except for the part where the matchlock samurai/heavy gunner tech and building is earlier.I mainly downloaded the mod for earlier matchlock ashigaru and so I defaulted back to the "unbalanced" version, but it feels bad missing out on the rest of this mod which I otherwise like. How would I mod the files so that I can change matchlock samurai/heavy gunner recruitment?

Well they were pretty much useless with extremely low accuracy. While Ikko ashigaru are worse than their peers in general (since they have more men), I thought Ikko matchlock was too harshly penalized. Accuracy of Ikko Bow, for example, is only 5 lower than normal bow, but Ikko matchlock was 20 lower. So I tried to replicate the balance of bow units. I may lower Ikko matchlock accuracy to 20 if they're too strong now.

I was unable to replicate the issue, everything works fine on my end and the mod doesn't make any changes to spear units whatsoever. Are you using any other mods?

The mod shouldn't have anything with Way of Spear. It may be an UI bug, but I'm pretty sure its functionality (xp bonus) would be unaffected. Will look into it, thanks

Does Way of the Spear work? When I select it, it's textbox expands all the way down. Do spear units still get the one experience rank when researched?

Glad people are interested in it. Just made a quick update to slightly increase the reload rate in ranked fire, hopefully it should be more useful, I may increase it even more. It also seems like the units are too weak until you gain ranked fire, you can barely shoot a volley before getting charged. I'd rather not go into tweaking reload rates, so instead I may add Kneel Fire as the default ability, which would be superseded by Ranked Fire after Gunpowder Mastery. Some people say kneel fire works better than ranked fire though, need to run some tests.

Look forward to trying this, the time it takes to get gunpowder units and the complete lack of them from AI enemies is one of the game's biggest flaws.

Forgot to mention that, they are also moved a tier up and can be recruited with Powder Maker. They still require the additional building, guess it was Armoury for Heavy Gunners.

What about Shimazu Heavy Gunners and other special matchlock units? They are like matchlock samurai
