Is Fire Extinguisher (continued) a hard dependency? Or could I uses any fire foam spraying weapon?

Guess it does not really wanna play with CE? Or whatever the issue seems to be :/ Without the mod manually using the FE works perfectly. But with it enabled the pawns just stands around and its spamming errors for as long as there is a fire. And the hotbar reduces itself to a single tile titled "FE Foam Level" can not even draft the pawn any longer.

Simple Sidearms turned out to be the culprit. I’ve uploaded my fix on your Discord in case you’d like to take a look and consider implementing it. I’m not entirely sure if everything is still working as intended, though.

Not so sure anymore, played a bit with a larger mod pack and there it doesn't seem to work. I might look into it again. Maybe it was never brocken in the smaller modpack and i never noticed it ...

Very simple fix: in Weapons_Fire_Ext.xml in Fire Extinguisher (Continued), change the <targetParams> section to:

<targetParams>
<canTargetLocations>true</canTargetLocations>
<canTargetFires>true</canTargetFires>
</targetParams>

RimWorld 1.6 changes how casting works.
Previously, allowing <canTargetLocations> was enough because indirect fire on a location would still hit fires.
Now the rules are stricter — the verb must explicitly allow targeting fires with <canTargetFires> or it will fall back to melee fire-beating.

At least that worked for me without any other mods running.

I'm just curious if anyone has gotten this mod to work the way it's supposed to. I see others having the same problem as me. My pawns will beat the fire with the fire extinguisher instead of using it. The other issue is the character options disappear when they swap to the fire extinguisher. I can't even draft them. If the mod is working for other people and not for me, I suspect it's probably my massive mod list causing this and I just need to find the conflict.

same, have this problem of pawn just beating the fire out with fire extinguisher instead, then just keep switching back n forth between main range and FE

pawns done seem to actually use fire extinguishers, they equip and swap to them during a fire but then they just beat the fire with them instead of using the foam.

@ZzZombo Found remnants of that functionality in the code but with comments that it had issues, mostly with Simple Sidearms. It may require more knowledge of the equipping-system than I have.

I'd like an option to put FE back to suitable storage when not needed, because they occupy inventory space, reducing the carrying capacity, and they are quite heavy. I have placed FE cabinets strategically all around the base and I think it would simply immersive for them to stay there when there is no fire, and firefighters pick them up from them when needed. I reckon it's as simple as ordering a colonist to unload the FE from their inventory, and they will automatically find a suitable storage, or do nothing if there is none.

@Mlie Maybe make the fire extinguishers on the main mod not count as weapon, but utility like shield belt? Merge fire extinguisher and firebelt into one item that has a ranged "attack"?

@MonsterHorns Fire warden does not affect the fire extinguishers, it just automates the use of them. Since the job is a firefighting job pyromaniacs will not be used by it.
The extinguishers are actually ranged weapons, works like shooting a forefoam-projectile. That makes pacifists incapable of using them.

So as I understand from descriptions, pyromaniacs can equip a fire extinguisher but have to be forced to use it while drafted? While pacifists can't equip them at all? That's a bit counterintuitive, any plans to fix it?

I also run into an issue with this and simple sidearm, pawns swap to the FE when needed but don't re-equip their primary weapon after leading to them frantically emptying their FE into raiders or manhunter animals. Not really game breaking but it creates more macro management than not using Fire Warden

It would be nice if the program would recognize when the FW is carrying a tool in his inventory and not constantly display a message FW lacks tool.
