I just realized that I have not updated this mod in 5 months! Since I made this so long ago it is not very optimized, but I will try to get an update out by the end of the year.

A problem I have with a great mod is that I become greedy. Any chance of a corner unit or even a three sided unit to make a storage room?

the other reason is that the shelf block itself is actually made of stretched grated catwalk blocks.

if you are talking about the shadow it generates then no, that is just a result of how fast the sun moves by default.

not yet but when you can store items in them, the shelves visually will not change. It would take a very long time to be able to do that.
