Thanks! About battlecry, I actually haven't been playing l4d 2 for ages, so making mods for that game has been put on the back burner so to speak. Perhaps if my interest in l4d returns, I'll return to mods as well.

That's odd, I have not encountered this problem myself. Works fine over here. What you could try is to delete the file properly. So, unsubscribe to the mod, then go to the folder were the mod is being kept: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam Games\SteamApps\common\Left 4 Dead 2\left4dead2\addons\workshop. There are 2 files that correspond with every single mod, a vpk file and a jpg. Since the vpk has a number as name (workshop id) you have to look at the jpg to see which vpk file corresponds with my mod. Now delete the 2 files (jpg isn't really necessary, but just for the sake of being thorough).
Subscribe to the mod again. Also make sure that the complete file is being downloaded (you can see the total file size when you go to the mod page). As of late the workshop servers of steam are acting pretty peculiar. Sometimes only a part of a mod is being downloaded. This is pretty much all I can think of right now. Hopefully it will work as it should after this.
