Shouldn't Genoa be more known for they're legendary crossbowmen?

It would be better if genoa can buy city states like venice because it's too hard if the only way to get another city is to annex.

@longocasa
No, I don't speak Italian.. Sorry. The text is in the XML/Text Folder, if anyone translates it into Italian I could probably include it officially..
There's an Italian version?

There is already a Genoa Civ (Teddyk) where Genoa can make settlers.

I think your interpretation of the history of Genoa is just as good as Firaxis' interpretation of the history of Venezia. It's a "City State" and Liguria/Sardinia is covered by expanding cultural borders on a standard map.

Tone down the lighthouse, and make settlers double cost. Or something, I'm not a modder ahaha
Genoa did settle Sardinia and parts of liguria, so you need some sort of way to implement settling. Maybe do it like india, double unhappiness from cities but improved trade routes for the UA

@Impirren RyRy: The Argument I made (and I know, it's not a very strong argument...) was, that genoa took sardinia through military means, adopted Patronage, recieved a free merchant of venice from a city-state, bought the city-state Caffa and constructed trading posts in those cities, but they kept some sort of local autonomy (No annexing)

The true reason of course, why genoa can't settle is because that would make them extremely OP.

But please tell me what you think. It's only how I interpret the history of Genoa and I'm not a historian.

One thing, Genoa DID settle places (Caffa, Sardinia), so I think maybe double the cost for Genovese settlers?

Unfortunately I can't speak italian, but if someone wants to do it, i'll update the mod with his or her translation. I'd provide a list with every text bit used, if someone annouces his or her interest in translating this mod.

ok thanks
@pythonz: Erm, yes, of course? I actually made it so that Genoa will be placed before the other civs, to make shure they start on coast. But like with Venice, there can be Bugs, where they start on a big lake or other stupid locations...
i think coastal bias would be good
I'm from Genoa, it's my dream this mod XD

I'm from Genoa! Great Work! xD

@Thengs: Erm, no.. What is your Game setup? Because I actually tested this and it always spawned both a settler and a warrior.
Is it intended for Genoa to only start with a settler and no other units?
@roblrich: Yeah.. Collective Rule.. When I made this mod I had no Idea, how I could get around this problem. It was only last week when I could think of a solution to this, but I'm still testing. Yes, getting new cities is pretty hard, that is by Design (you're not supposed to win through domination) ;) and also keeping a city when you manage to conquer one, which I think is more or less historically accurate. Or what would you want the trait to look like?
Got nothing when unlocking 'Collective Rule' social policy. Is this by design? Also, it's hard to get enough units to take a city. I've given it my best shot and prefer Venice. Hope this civ is revisited and some adjustments made.
Good work, thank you.

@zArkham4269: It can be quite OP, it's just (very) bad at having extra cities. If you build Trading Stations(they are better than the normal great merchant build) in the beginning, you get a nice headstart, at the End of the Game you'll swimm in money. But yeah, if you don't start at a coast, you'll have no chance.

But I'd gladly have some more opinions, how playing Genoa feels.
So this is Venice without the ability to use a Great Merchant to take over new cities? If so then I think they need some sort of mechanic to buy mercenaries or they'll really be hosed given they will have to concentrate so heavily on getting troops to take over extra cities.
