Is there a size limit for the file you use as the background video? mine is also not working and wondering if that was it. I ripped a video from yt and assuming that is the issue.

Wallpaper Engine provides a fixed-size array of frequency values through a callback.
To create a visualizer like this you definitely need to be able to get samples from the audio source, either already in the frequency domain or raw amplitude values.

What are you trying to do and in what environment? Is this a game you are developing or a mod for an existing one?

does the visualizer only react to Volume changes?(where volume is represented as a value) or does it somehow access the frequencies of the sound? ive been trying to create a visualizer similar to this one in a game and cannot figure it out

This wallpaper brings me imense joy!
I've always wanted something like this, but wasn't able to find anything similar so far. I love that I can put image in the background and I also plan to slap a PNG with frequency markings in the foreground for the vertical bars.
Couple of things I'd love to see added:
1) Option to downmix stereo to mono and have just that one channel displayed.
2) The ability to change the density of FFT bars, so I can have a few thick ones, or a lot of thin ones.

This is great, I have only one request if it hasn't been made already. Or maybe I'm too stupid to find the setting but: It'd be great to be able to choose the sound source. I use an external sound card and it doesn't get recognized, sadly.

Only for Corsair and Razer keyboards as far as I know. It needs to be enabled in Wallpaper Engine's settings (if not enabled by default) under Plugins > iCUE & Chroma SDK.

Maybe. I've never done it, but you could try using a software like Voicemeeter to create a virtual audio device and then use that device in both Spotify and Wallpaper Engine.

A month after using the spotify feature I found somebody started using my spotify account. I would not recommend using this feature if you are concerned about privacy. It was fun to queue songs like Ram Ranch and 3 Big Balls for the hacker though, definitely gonna keep using this wallpaper!

There's a video option for the background but it doesn't let me select any videos. Is there a specific file type the video needs to be or am I missing a step?

Would it be possible to add a delay setting without much effort? My system sound is connected to the speakers via bluetooth and has a slight delay (~ 0.5 seconds). If you could add an option to set an individual delay for the "movement" of the visuals so one can manually fix the offset it would be perfect! Nevertheless thanks for the great wallpaper! Beside my individual delay-"problem" it works perfectly :)

Sure. Since I'm not sure why it's not working for you, try following these steps (again) and if it still doesn't work then we'll figure something out.

- Enable "Show Advanced Options" at the very top of the properties page.
- Enable "Clear Local Storage" at the very bottom and then disable it. This will trigger a reset of some internally stored configs (e.g the Spotify token).
- Clear out both the "Token" and the "Backend URL" fields.
- Reload the wallpaper.
- Go to https://aleab.github.io/acav-we/token and click on "Request a token".
- Login to Spotify if it asks you to; accept whatever it asks you to accept regarding api usage and permissions.
- Copy the token and paste it in the "Token" field in Wallpaper Engine.
- Be sure you are not using Private Session [support.spotify.com] in your Spotify client.

But could you give us the option to change the time interval for background image playlists to less that half an hour.. maybe 10/15 minutes.. that would be great!

I've pushed a small update just now. Can you enable the "Show Stats" property and check what it says? I'm only interested in the "Spotify" section at the bottom of the stats overlay.
