it woulod condense the doors engines and total space required, plus you would have fewer actuall moving parts aside the rotors and door sections, fewer thrusters and excess power draining/space occupying parts.

try condensing syustem to a simple rotor system place notches in the door itself and apply the power directly to moving the door in a linear direction. using aslittle impact to force, i would construct the door out of a lighter material but use heavy armor ramps 1x1 to construct the notches in the door.

This was no doubt done before wheels were introduced to the game. You can now use a boggey system very much as found on steel rollercoasters which grip a track be can't leave the track. So it's very possible to condense this operating mechanisim or elimiate it entirely and rely on wheels with spindles as live or neutral axils. If you are not sure how a roller coasters boggy sysem works there are lots of sites describing how a roller coaster grips the track.

Why do the long pieces with the landing gear have to be so long? Couldn't it work with just a few blocks around the connection (of the 21 block arm)?

absolutely great job but i do have a suggestion. could you have 2 sets of rotors, each only does 1 direction (either open or close) and with a seperate power supply so that you turn one on to open then power it down to close. the close would have to be weaker than tha open or vice versa
