spend half an hour exotic xanion salvage turret and lot of xanion to make 4 squads useless fighters that cant pick up items and salvage just flying in circles

I have also noticed that if you place hangars close to centre of mass fighters dock better.

I also noticed that, with mining and salvaging fighters at 1200m/s they outrun the loot they pickup, which makes it hard for an automated mining or salvaging carrier to properly work. I now have not spend so many points in speed with those and it seems to work well if they are just below 1000m/s.

Also regarding docking: Maneuverabilty (probably misspelled) helps with docking at high speeds.

I can't change how the return to ship function works as it is hard coded, but i might be able to set the return order to reduce fighter maxvelocity.

Yeah, true, it has always been a bit fiddly but it's gotten better.

I could be entirely off base on my observations but I get the feeling that it's trying to determine docking speed off a percentage of the max the fighter is capable of.

I will look into it. The docking was big problem before my mod. The hangars have to be large and pronounced to work properly.

It seems the increased speed messes with the AI for docking. Most cases now just have fighters orbiting the carrier because they are going too fast.

Do you know what function controls the docking speed and can that be modified to make docking more reasonable?

It affects only new fighters.

Does this work with existing fighters or does it only work with new blueprints?

Now there is 8x speed mod

It would be easy to modify, but i don't think the game would handle hundreds of 5km/s fighters very well.

Can I change or add speed at 8x speed? I want to do it at 8x speed....
