Because it's fancier that way and makes the empty reload diferent in a way
Also in real life soldiers often hit their helmets with the magazine to check if they were completely loaded,as the sound they made was different

The M1A1 Thompson was not bad for close quarters, at range medium-long it becomes useless pretty much and it weights 4 kg.

Thats probably the most difficult ww2 gun to model accuratly

You should redo the MG34 man and the m1a1 carbine they're a bit outdated but still great quality!
