ill be getting a new computer this weekend I think and one of the first things ill do is recompile some of my maps; so yes, a possible update coming soon

As well I might add this to the FLF game mode.

Thanks psyko, I actually did have all the nav areas named at one point but they all got deleted when I recompiled and moved the map into a quadrant instead of in the middle of the world editor

I made a NAVedit guide that can be used as a navedit.cfg as well, if you'd like to give your map some names. I promise its so easy (especially with my changes) it actually could make fun.

the navname stuff is at the bottom...

If i found the right skybox to fit the feel i would implement it. I could look into adding some 'clouds' in the form of what would usually be used for the dust bowls occasionally but i would be concerned mostly about performance (im talking the dust clouds, not the dust motes).

The intended theme is a dark stormy night somewhere remote. The word 'tenebrous' means dark or gloomy. I guess you could say I didn't like any of the default skyboxes and couldn't be bothered getting a custom one but if someone had one they wanted to suggest I would be open to it.

Once you are in game it (at least to me) plays a trick on my eyes after a few minutes where the pink colour goes away leaving things closer to a grey tone that makes baddies easier to see (by my perception at least...make one of the screenshots full screen and stare at it for a minute, you may seen what I mean...), much in the way that wearing red tinted ski goggles eventually looking at the snow is white again after a couple of minutes (until you take them off and everything looks blue).

The pink you see also it not the lighting as much as it is 'fog' and colour correction. And it is not actually pink in either case but dark purple, but just very subly applied (like 6/255) over a mostly greyish or whitish background.

Try the map out with some bots and look at it for about 10 minutes and tell me if the effect I mentioned occurs to you also...let me know if it also makes it easier for you to see!

It's a little too pink, maybe change the lights from the reddish color to a more yellowish / orange color like in the last screenshot?

(part 2 of the comment, didn't fit all in one. Read part 1 first)

One thing i noticed was the rain, it's coming down way too roughly, which also affects framerate. I have a pretty new pc myself, less than a year old and the rain affected framerate quite a bit and on certain areas the map itself too. If i were you, i would reduce the rain down. The current suits for single player games but in full action, that's just annoyance. Also it really needs more light.

I run servers for several games myself. The most maps that people seem to dislike are too dark ones. Just by looking the images, this might be too dark. The reason why dark maps are disliked is simply that the players are harder to spot on certain areas. I've been experimenting dark maps before myself and there just cannot be too dark maps or players leave the servers.

After looking the map ingame, there definitely are quite a few spots where enemy is kind of hard to see. Especially that one route leading upwards (or downwards, if you look other way) is way too dark. Also you will need to simplify some indoor routes so that players are more comfortable within the map and won't get lost and be frustrated. I see some of them are as such to cut visibility but atleast they need to be wider than they are now. Players need to pass eachothers and watch out grenades. Can't be too tight.

As for the Market it will stay mostly empty for now, as there are framerate issues if you are in Bombsite A looking back at the market. Until I optimize (later in developement), I won't add anything else there in order to keep the FPS up.

I love the dark night and rain plus the minimal lighting. Btw I came along a bug in one corridor where you go up a small ramp the floor is too narrow to walk through. Check that. It is yet too unfinished to say any more I guess. Maybe work a bit on the empty market.

i love some more night time maps in cs! my favourite map was de_dust2 from 1.5. i loved how the map was bright and playable, but still gave an enclosed feeling through the black sky. awesome

Have you actually tried though? I purposfully kept 90% of walls a light colour in order to make the player models silhouette against them, no matter the lighting conditions.

There are 3-5 spots where it could possibly be hard to see someone, but truth be told I find it easier to see people on this map than a bunch of other official maps...Aztec, Ruins, Mirage, Vertigo, hell even Dust2 has a couple spots where it is hard to see people due to shadows, camoflauge, etc.

If you are really having that much trouble seeing everywhere and not just in a couple of spots, I would suggest tweaking your brightness/gamma settings both in game, in monitor, and using your GFX card.

Tenebrous is a work meaning dark, gloomy, shadowy...

It was intended to be a dark map all the way back to it's incarnation in development for a Half-Life mod called Frontline Force (when it was called flf_twilight, and I will note it was before the vampire stuff), in which flares were scattered throughought the street areas to provide light. It at one point was in development for CS:Source back when there was nightvision; I intentionally left the back alleys (non-essential to gameplay) dark to actually give you incentive to buy the $1250 gadget in order to make it easier to use alternate routes to the bombsites.

Yes, the first commentor down below was saying it might be hard to see players but they often silhouette onto light backgrounds quite well, and he didn't realize there was bot capabilities so something told me he had not gone into game to check it out yet...positive feedback so far about the atmosphere so far otherwise!
